Its going to be a TV series but based around other stories from that world rather than LOTR. I think so anyway

I think they were going to base it from the Second Age. The LOTR series takes place in the Third Age.

Too bad Tolkien died before he wrote more books. The war of the rings is only 20 pages from his history of middle earth. Had Tolkien lived another hundred years, he could have extracted hundreds of books from his notes on middle earth history. The story of Boren and Lorien would definitely span three books
