Yeah I would go with that. With the Gloucester half backs. Grady on the wing where he belongs and probably Dyer and Winnett completing the back 3. I would like to see Eddie James get some minutes as well though somewhere. If he is on the bench then at some point you could take Anscombe off and move Ben Thomas to 10 and bring Eddie on at 12. Some big units then at 12 13 14. May be needed especially against SA.

Across the park, the balance of the side must be right so either Thomas or James at 12 with Anscombe at 10 all day long, 13 you could have either Max or Grady,. Back row, Jac at 7 Plum at 6 and Wainwright at 8 a good balance, Tommy with Jack doesn't work.

Yeah, that’s why I would go with. I think that type of side gives us our best option to win. Solid players with good team balance.👌🏼

Christian remember it will be a very different Fiji team against Wales With them able to use ALL THEIR TOP14 , PREMIERSHIP players ect [S.MATAVASIE - V.MATA - N.LOMAINE - S.RADRADA ECT] So beating Fiji will be a very very difficult task For myself im not that confident Wales even with a better squad [ than the summer] are capable [I can hop] Plus the fact Fiji will be very angry with themselves [given the performance against Scotland] and will want to put the record straight Unfortunately i just cannot see Wales being able to get a win here Their best opportunity i feel will be against Australia Where currently iam at least 50/50 and that i also feel is Wales only chance of a win this Autumn But iam not to disheartened either As i can see Wales SLOWLY improving and changing the guard Come the 6Ns Wales may start to be competitive and threaten a few teams As the new players start to settle and hopefully perform
@richardrees3225Ай бұрын
Fiji's team next week will be completely different. All their 1st teamers are back. This week against Scotland they played their 2nd team... Max Llewellyn has Definitely got to play at 13. Nicky Smith is probably our best Props. We need to domanate the scrum next week but I don't see us doing it. I'm sorry but Wales are never beating South Africa . If we beat Fiji I'm happy. I don't see us beating Australia either unfortunately. But we will wait and see. I'm trying to be positive but watching Wales since the world cup is like watching paint dry.. Our defence has been porous and our attack has been toothless. But hopefully with the big hitters back I'm a little more positive. Might get a win again Fiji. If Costelow starts again Fiji or Australia we are not going to win any.
@jacoblewis899929 күн бұрын
Why does gatland love costelow? If I compare him to what I look for in NFL players he is good not great. Misses too many kicks, is short, game management last 6 nations, etc. does he supposedly have better game management than I think?? Again, I don't get to watch much here is US but I watch as much Welsh club and international as I can. I watched Gloucester a few times and I think those boys are good. Idk
@RRTNZ28 күн бұрын
I've been losing my fccyin mind over Gats persisting with Costelow...if he was going to be ready for international level he'd have been ready by now. Spoiler he's not. Both him and Elias have snatched defeat from the Jaws of victory for us more than a few times. For the love of Duw they have to go.

Hi Christian, I think we will win but a close win may be by a a point or two but a win, I know Fiji will be hungry for a win after last years game in the world cup. I did pick Ben Thomas but Max is a good one as well so either Ben or Max. It will be good to see Nicky Smith play not to bothered if he starts or on the bench as long as he plays. Can we beat South Africa I say never say never, we got a chance, but SA may win might be a close game, SA are a strong team and it will be a SA win.

Really interesting about Nicky Smith. I almost feel like his unexpected inclusion in the squad would be pointless if we're not looking to start him all the time now- the Ospreys seem to be missing him loads especially in the scrum. I'd like to see him given a run with a view to having him, Lake and Griffin as the starting front row in the next world cup
@TheWelshSportsPodcast29 күн бұрын
It’s always hard to judge with Gatland. But I’m with you. I hope he gives him a run and see if he can actually make it impact on his team. Yeah, The Osprey scrum been nothing like it was last season which is no coincidence😬

Good video. I’m seriously concerned about the Fiji game. I think the fact Scotland have just battered them makes it worse. The side Scotland faced will barely resemble the side we will face and I just see us getting over powered. I think they’ll dominate the rucks and have so many destructive carriers we’ll be playing most of the game on the back foot. I see a Fiji win by around 10 points. I hope I’m wrong but, I’m feeling really pessimistic about this fixture.

Mason Grady Cam Winnett
@TheWelshSportsPodcast29 күн бұрын
To be honest, it probably is a bit soon for Wainwright to get a run out, but I’m not convinced that there is a better option at six if Plumbtree is playing 8. Decent looking team though I think beard starts every day of the week though he’s been a Gatland favourite for a while
@garethdavies988129 күн бұрын
@ I think I’d play Tchuinza at 6 until Wainwright is fit, I agree with you Gatland will definitely pick Beard. Personally I’d have Carter, Williams, Thomas and Tchuinza all in the second row before Beard.
@TheWelshSportsPodcast29 күн бұрын
Yeah, I’m not his biggest fan either, but coaches seem to rave about him and the work he does defensively so I must just be missing something outside of the line out. I don’t really see it.
@garethdavies988129 күн бұрын
@ I think it’s just a lot to do with his size and weight at scrum time, because I don’t see anything either. He reminds me of Derwyn Jones.

Hi from SA. Seeing Gatland has a harder job this time around why did Wales not snap up Felix Jones and a couple of other coaches to help Gats out? I don't know what the story is so forgive me if i am asking stupid questions.
@TheWelshSportsPodcast29 күн бұрын
Felix Jones is a great coach but I think our defence has probably been our best factor really. It’s the attack and scrum that has been an issue so a new scrum coach would be a help if you have any spare? 😬

@TheWelshSportsPodcast I agree with u with the scrum in recent years it was alot stronger. Henry thomas is decent in the scrum. I wouldn't know who to start at tighthead mind?

@@TheWelshSportsPodcast in a dream world, Rountree would be the perfect fit (given he's also worked with Gatland for 3x lions tours) for a scrum/forwards coach, but as he's been head coach for a few years it'd be highly unlikely

I’d be happy with Griffin starting but I don’t think he’s played any rugby because he said issues with his heart. So who knows about his fitness. I think Gatland will go with Henry Thomas and I’d be pretty happy with that. He’s probably the best option at scrum

I am no rugby expert being as we have low access in USA, but i watch as much as i can, i dont see the mason grady as a "sure thing" to start? Idk, he seems like he misses a key tackle or penalties etc. idk
@TheWelshSportsPodcast28 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching from across the pond👍🏼 I don’t think he is a sure thing to start. The thing with Grady is he’s an absolutely supreme athlete, strong and fast but at the moment there doesn’t seem a consensus on what his best position is and he’s been moved around a lot wing, 12 and 13 and I think it’s hard to settle in defensively when you’re moving around so much I do think he’ll come good and I do think he will start on the wing because we don’t produce many players of his athletic ability in Wales so we need to just give him time and whatever he needs to develop
@jacoblewis899928 күн бұрын
@TheWelshSportsPodcast great analysis thank you. I watch/listen to some of the KZbin guys and podcast and they sort of assume certain things that I don't know as i have like a 2 year game sample size for knowing players. IMO with Fiji's wild play style I would want Defensive players 1st pick and the. Whoever is best at scoring from turnovers from a wild or undisciplined play style? Then again those may be 2 different players!!
@TheWelshSportsPodcast26 күн бұрын
That’s great. Are you American or are you from UK originally? Well I hope help you fill in some of the gaps👍🏼 Yeah selection is a tough one for this game. I think we just need to go our best 15 possible regardless of play style and just try to outclass them over the 80 minutes. It’s going to be a close one either way I think 😬

@@TheWelshSportsPodcast yes, I'm a typical Midwest American farm family heritage. Nothing special. i grew up playing baseball, football, etc. I'm from Indiana where as sports go Basketball is the king lol. I learned about rugby from a great uncle played for a local rugby club in the 80s and 90s and he took me to a club tournament when I was a kid. Sort of a "beer league" type deal, was fun. Around mid 2000s when I was in grade school I learned about 6 nations, world cup etc. a family member said Lewis was a Welsh surname, I watched a few highlights from Welsh grand slam and had to chose the Welsh as myteam. My fav players at that time were Leigh halfpenny, and Sam warburton. Recently I got back in it watching Welsh play in WC on TV, URC club games of the 4 teams, and a little prem. club games last season and this season. @ I really hope you’re right , how much do we need a win . We have been fortunate to have had such a conveyor belt of great players over the years . Eventually we were going to have a lean patch . The regions have suffered just as much as the disparity wealth and grass roots has diminished . Also the wru have been caught napping and have failed to build on those great years , and instead concentrated to much on gimmicks like Friday night rugby . Pivac was great in South Africa , but realistically prospered when opposing players saw red . Hopefully gats can use his vast experience to get some needed momentum together and put pride back in the shirt .👍
