It was released on OTT so it was safe in terms of commerce so don't say it didn't did well and it is one of the best historic depictions It was really disappointing that some woke man didn't let this movie submit to the Oscars as it was worthy one this could have been our Schindler's list but we were robbed

nah, it created pretty ruckus, it was a blockbuster, people actually liked it and vicky kaushal thereafter. The reason it was rejected in oscars was because the oscar commitee said that this movie shows hatred towards britishers.

Sardar Udham is the best movie in terms of historical accuracy, direction, acting. Definitely deserved an Oscar. (Heeramandi is garbage)

This movie gave me goosebumps and then drove me to tears. I recommend everyone to watch it, and it deserves a theatrical release. It should have been official entry in Oscar from India, but it was not due to political nature of the film.

Oscar level movies: Haider, Sardar Udham, The Lunchbox, Swades and Gangs of Wasseypur 1& 2 (both films were shot as one but due to it being a low budget movie with no big names except Manoj Bajpai, who is not a commercial actor, theatres refused to release a 5 hr 30 mins long film. So the director Anurag Kashyap broke it into two films. Martin Scorsese was so impressed after watching the film that he personally wrote a letter of appreciation about the movie to the director).

in India indians make movies, only Bengalees make "cinema" , there is a track record ! most intnl film festival screenings and awards, if Bengalees had even 1/3rd budget and support that hindi and South gets, every 3rd year an Indian film would be winning an intn'l award, I say with full authority.

Oscar will never be given to Major Good Quality Indian film unltil & unless you have paid them or there is some political message that has to be sent. Anyhow most Indian major films don't quite fit the bill or preference of Oscar criteria. But yes quite a lot of small budget or regional films get selected by Oscar! There was a time when people were desperate for, lack of better word wanting Indian films to win Oscar, not that much now, also Bollywood has gone to garbage for the most part, and other good films don't get picked by their selection board. Also there Indian representative is Brown Coconut, who looks down on Indian films & culture!
