Thanks for loving OPM. If only our government, and music producers, and record labels, and media networks will work hand-in-hand to promote PPOP, put some budget to PPOP, and enrich PPOP, world domination is so easy to attain. Sad reality in the Philippine music industry is that most people involved that has the power to make it big are focused only on easy profit. I really want 1Z Entertainment of SB19 to become big because this company has a clear goal to revolutionize the music industry in the Philippines. So much time and talent have already been wasted and 1Z Ent is set to put an end to it so I hope they get more support.

I remember in my teenage days Menudo boy group from Puerto Rico during the 80s were so popular in the Philippines. I was a fan and my biases were Ricky Martin and Robby Rosa. “If Your Not Here” and “Please be Good to Me” were the most requested songs of theirs during that time. That’s when they tried to start boy bands or groups in the Philippines in the late 80s and early 90s.

Smokey Mountain was so huge in Asia that they influenced the music of Asia. Thus Ppop was the one that influenced Kpop and not the opposite as what many youngsters of today thought. They inspired the growth and formation of groups around Asia. That's why when you listen to Kpop, it sounds like Ppop and not the other way around especially the Korean ballads, very the same with Philippines ballads. It was Kpop that made dancing priority and the importance of singing becomes less to the level that it was manufactured since the talent of singing is scarce, they adapted lipsync, autotunes, prerecorded vocals which is backtrack audio which made idols sound perfect in their vocals which is American and further improved though technology like postprocess editing. There is no longer real LIVE singing. Becoming an Idol has become a Science. They made it so Scientific that there were schools created for those who wanted to become Idols. They took something from Ppop, Jpop and American Pop and incorporated it to become what is now known today as Kpop and the world embraced this new trend of music. That is how I see history. That my 10 cents though.

Menudo's hits were "If You're Not Here" and "Please Be Good To Me" among others. And they specifically made a song for the Filipinos called "I'm Going Back To The Philippines" because of their enormous success here in the PH. Also, Reuben Gomez, a former member got a significant radio airplay for his songs "I Can Lose Myself In You/Perdido(Spanish Ver.)" and "Let It Rain/Volvere(Spanish Ver.) in the early 2000s.

the INDIE SCENE is where all the great artists are all across forms and genres, the big labels always want the visuals, and usually it latches on the westernized standards all before they hone the talents. So the Indie scene is clearly full of talents but their genres are not mainstream, that's why each has to find their own niche to survive in the industry. They don't get supported just because of raw talent. Sometimes or most of the time people or the masses recognize their bias as the great talent and invalidates or even degrades others they don't like.

Yes, I think this is just for pop groups and not all are covered, the one who made the video missed a lot. Like they included UMD but not Streetboys.😂 And if I'm not mistaken, Jolina is part of 14-K, as well as Rhada of Kulay.

The video was intended for pop groups only (vocal groups and sing-and-dance groups). Kulay was not included because they were considered as HipHop group. Kulay was on my video OPM/PPOP HIPHOP GROUPS GENERATIONS. You can check it on my channel. I also have the latest update of the featured video posted last September 29 more groups were added there. For Sugarpop and Wyrd, I will check them out to include them in the next update. Thanks for the info.

for filipinos, rock bands, indie bands (at least nowadays), rnb, and ballads are the thing that that always sells. pinoy pop groups are not taken seriously (even the ones who produced them). they are seen as more of entertainers than artists since they are not trained well (or not at all). hence, they are given lower quality of music and video production. and if you stan groups back in the day, you're guaranteed to be a laughingstock or be mocked. HOWEVER, with the rise of new generation of ppop groups and the incorporation of rigorous training system- i think filipinos are slowly giving it a chance. i mean BINI has the Philippines on chokehold this year. it's going to be a long process but i feel hopeful. they just need someone who will invest in them.

I think there is a very interesting correlation between a few factors. There seem to be a direct correlation between country's cultural rise, aka as softpower and it's sustained economic boom. I don't think it's a coincidence that J-Pop was a thing, then K-pop happened right after Japan and Korea achieved high economic growth. Now we are seeing P-pop starting to fully bloom on its own and a second and and third factors are also becoming obvious: Being an open society and friendly relations with the West. The last two factors are probably the reason why no one is talking about C-pop from China despite China's gargantuan economic rise. Having the capital to spend on high production, liberal democracy (if flawed) fostering creativity and having ready access to friendly (and very wealthy) markets = Global cultural phenomenon.
