Yep, Daryl is old school RnB. And he's puts in a 'little bit of jazz' in his renditions - as the original by SWV is not jazzy at all. The vocal coaches and singers reacting to him marvel at his ease in using the blues scale. Bobby Velasco sounds familiar to you because he had a hand in Daryl and Katrina's 'MULI' and Katrina feat BuDaKhel's 'I'M YOUR ANGEL'. And I've read that he's also the musical arranger for the Brian McKnight medley that Daryl has been prepping for uploading one of these days (or months). :)
