Its a turkish folk song. The name of the musical instrument they use is Baglama ( or Saz) . This song is about a hopeless love.

I love your reactions and as a Turk i am proud that our traditional music can reach peoples's heart in other countrys. And yes you are right this song is poemlike because there is this traditional music called "türkü" which is what this song is. Türkü is basically poems written in order to singed with a melody. They are mostly written by "halk ozanları" which i can roughly translate as folk poets(?) i think or they can be annonymus mostly bc they were written so long ago and people just forgot who wrote it first but kept singing it till now. This song is an annonymus one from the east region of Turkey. And lastly I just want to point out something. The voice after 8.38 is not cem's voice its actually zeynep's voice. Her voice is a little bit on the deep side and i think you confused her with him. It's not a very big thing actually but i just want to give her credit. Thank you for the reaction :) English isn't my first language so i am sorry for my mistakes.

Our traditional music genre 'Türkü' is passes on to generation for centuries. They all have the deep meanings. Cem interprets the song according to his unique style. when you call Turkish guitar which means Turkish baglama / saz. The most commonly used string folk instrument in Turkey, the bağlama has seven strings divided into courses of two, two and three. In short, the writing of the this Türkü is a lament, in fact, a Christian girl fell in love with a Turkish Muslim and her father opposed it. This is the story that the boy laments every night.Thank you guys for your interest and love in Turkish culture 🥰💖

The song is probably hundreds of years old so I think it's anonymous but Mehmet Yüzgeç and Muzaffer Sarısözen arranged the lyrics. The story takes place in the eastern Anatolia ( so there is probably Georgian and Armenian version of it) and it's about Christian young man falling in love with a woman who comes from a powerful family. The father of the woman doesn't want her daughter to marry him (because of the social class) and the man's family doesn't want their son marry her (religious issues) so two young lovers decide to run away together but they get killed on their way.

Hi, Cem Adrian loves to rearrange original Turkish Folk music pieces, beside his popular songs, like this. The instrument you heard is not the one you showed, but its name is "baglama" or "saz"... I think the rhythm is 3/4 not so complex :) there are 5/8, 7/8 or even 9/8 ones.
