Born in Korea, attending a Korean Arts High School and currently living as an office worker in Korea, I would like to say a few things to foreign kpop fans: T-ara was much more popular in Korea than foreigners think, and although the heyday of the girl group Girl's Day is short. However, the song "someting" was a syndrome-level popularity in Korea. Also, Dal Shabet and Rainbow were quite popular in Korea, and if you are a kpop fan, you should remember. And girl group GFRIEND was much more popular in Korea than foreigners think. Every time a song was released, it was number 1 on all music charts and broadcasts for over 10 weeks. And around the same time as GFRIEND, Lovelyz was a popular girl group with an innocent concept. And BTS wasn't as popular as it is today before DNA in Korea. Their current popularity began in foreign countries other than Korea.

to add for non korean kpop fans, a lot of the biggest kpop groups overseas aren’t that big in korea and all the biggest groups in korea often don’t make it big overseas it’s really interesting to look at what’s successful here compared to what’s successful overseas and i think foreign fans would be quite surprised to see what groups are and aren’t popular here

@@bbibbibu I also think that the "biggest" kpop groups back then didn't have the benefit of the internet like kpop does now. There wasn't much attention/interest in kpop at all, or as much as now. However when kpop groups made it, they made it BIG. Like Big Bang for example. Even if you weren't a VIP (Big bang's fandom), EVERYONE knew their songs and all the lyrics. Honestly, it was easier to find someone who knew & liked big bang (and tvxq & 2ne1 in their prime) rather than someone who didn't. Of course, this is true mostly among the young people, but honestly even old people knew who big bang were even if they didn't know their songs. I will say tho, groups that are "big" right now don't seem to have as much impact as whole on the young like they did back then during the 2-3rd gens. Even when BTS is considered the biggest kpop group in korea atm, they don't seem as big (nationally) compared to big bang/snsd/tvxq/2ne1. Unless you're an army, it'll be hard to find someone who knows all the lyrics to BTS' songs. If you ask someone on the street, they'd probably only know Fire and Blood, Sweat & Tears by BTS, and not the whole song but the part "불 타오르네/fireeeee" lol. Mostly because it's so overused in variety shows where they use fire in the kitchen etc. Yes, Spring Day was a bop and did very well in korea, but sadly it wasn't known by everyone (the gp). For example, everyone knows Nobody by the Wonder Girls/ Gee by SNSD, but if you'd ask about Spring Day, it would mostly be kpop/bts fans that knew the song (or young people) Also, this might be because there are SO MANY groups these days that the population/people kinda divided, so there won't be as big of an impact? Back in the day before kpop was so popular globally/marketed on social media, koreans would focus on just the couple of groups that were popular, and those groups were mostly from the big 3 companies. One exception these days would be New Jeans. I won't say that they're the biggest right now (they have potential) because it's just their debut so we'll have to see what they come out with next. But a looooot of koreans know new jeans/ attention. I dunno, this is just my perception as a korean who grew up with 2-3 gen kpop

They are a second gen group and had a graduation concept with their members. Orange Caramel (Cantanella, Magic Girl) is a subunit of theirs. 2011 sistar had ma boy too which was a and still is one of the biggest Kpop songs ever, sistar19 gone not around any longer should be in 2013 as well it’s literally top3 best digitally selling songs in 2013 like the whole year and only subunit song to get a perfect all kill in the charts. 2015 sistar with shake it were literallly everywhere like it was the biggest summer song of that year and SOME by soyou like she literally had the biggest song of 2014 thanks to her a new saying became popular in Korea when you see on kdramas talking about 2 people seeing each other as them having a “SOME” well it’s because of that song 😂 Wjsn as you wish too deserved to be here that song comes back in the charts at n1 every single year this is just how legendary it is

T-Ara had "scandals" but honestly... it wasn't their fault SHDHDH one of the ex-members (Hwayoung) accused the others of bullying and it just blew up But many yrs later after the controversy, their staff spoke out and cleared things up. I really want you to make a Pledis Entertainment special! Like, almost all of their artists are on this video, they really do have BIG names, such like SON DAMBI (known as the "Female Bi(Rain)", After School, Orange Caramel (After School first sub-unit), Nu'est, Seventeen, Pristin, Pristin V and now Fromis_9 (also, Hello Venus and Iz*one are often considered artists under Pledis but are not directly theirs). They also have amazing producers like Bumzu (Soloist too, he works with Seventeen and Nu'est since debut/pre-debut, has made song for them and participed on the production of songs such as: Super Tuna and Abbys by Jin, H.E.R. and Yesterday by Block B (chorus), Fun Factory (Fromis_9 album), Spider by Hoshi, etc.), Woozi, Baekho and Shannon (former Pristin main vocal and producer, her recents works include: Dar+ling by Seventeen, Ruby by Woozi, Wadada by Kep1er, Why Don't We by Rain). Also the way the company was founded is really interisting (clarification: i DO NOT support all the mistreatment they have done to their artists, I'm just talking about their "contribution" to the kpop industry). I know all of them, lol. But honestly if u want to include ballad and rap, the list would be really different. Ofc we know idols is "the thing' in korea, but they have so many amazing musicians that killed the chart too. So its kinda funny to me that the video mentions goblin ost while there have been so many ost topping the charts and I think it still missing a lot of one hit wonders. But its still a fun video tho If I can request I really want you to listen to f(x)'s album Pink Tape. I can't guarantee you will love everything, but I'm pretty sure you will appreciate kpop more. Bcs kpop used to only sells single or ep, Pink Tape is probably the first full length album from kpop artists that gained so much attention bcs its quality. Also, since you always mention Block B bcs how wild they are, can you please react to them. They're fun, their music too
