You NEED to react to Sistar's Alone. Sistar was absolutely massive in Korea. Their videos are also popular internationally but can't even compare to their Korean popularity. They have 9 consecutive #1 on Korean charts, even their disbandment single hit #1. That's a record.

To clarify for Efra, abt the views, what we’re saying is that the views they’re listing in these videos are NOT the amt of views these MVs had in those years. So these videos don’t actually give you an accurate view of the top 10 MVs from each year bc they’re taking the view count from 2022 for an MV released X number of years ago. For example, in 2016 this video lists Boombayah as having 1B+ views (making it #1 in this video) but the MV with the most views from 2016 (for a girl group) was actually TT by Twice.

💯 This and they need to remember KZbin views didn't mean anything back then and it wasn't as popular certainly not in Korea too so now the views are significantly inflated by fans streaming the songs and just by the larger audience on KZbin

plus honestly, the view counts after 2nd gen and during the "globalization" of kpop were really inflated by crazy streaming from fans (especially foreign fans, since youtube view counts were the easiest digital metric they can help with to help their favs win music shows in Korea...), so when they were talking about how there were more than 1.5 billion people who viewed BP's videos, i reaaally doubt there were actually that many unique listeners. Heck, Gangnam style hitting 1 billion views was a huge outlier, but even popular western artistes like Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber did not hit that milestone till many years after. So, not to discount anything from BP, but they have to keep in mind, "how many of those views are really just zombie-streaming by fans with multiple accounts" rather than actual people viewing the videos.

@@serenity8739 but i guess we can excuse them for a little, since they seem to be newer kpop fans who came in when kpop became more globalised (at least for the guy, since i havent watched too many of their videos yet but the girl seemed somewhat knowledgeable about past kpop). I remember back then, we were celebrating whenever songs broke 100 million views, or when Fantastic Baby became the first kpop MV to break 400 million views (even though i wasnt a fan of many of those songs), or when Nu'est's Face was the most viewed debut MV for the longest time running till it got dethroned. Now, these milestones seem so meaningless when they are getting broken every other day due to the intense streaming by foreign fans.

EXID is definitely the quirkiest one here. It's sad that they never got that attention they deserved because of their label and some other series of events. Most of these famous groups above have very less involvement in actual music making and don't even sing live. Their MVs are popular because of their labels and their pretty faces or because they are from overly hyped and dramatized survival shows. It makes me sad. I tried staning so many groups but becoz I found EXID first, I couldn't find any other group as interesting.

You guys should definitely react to Miss A and Sistar they have such good songs. Regarding Miss A though they disbanded because people’s attention were mostly on Suzy making the company promote her more than the other members the company neglected the group itself which eventually lead to them separating. There was a lot going on that time but nevertheless I love their songs.

The reason the mv of back in the days were much lower than the ones today is because even YT back then wasn't that big of thing. Also, people start using YT more now a days, or technologies in general. YT apps on phones, tablets/ipads/ laptops, etc...back then you gotta use a computer

SNSD korean song "Into The New World" and "Girls' Generation" are the no.1 and no.3 of most viewed girls group mv in 2007, SNSD korean song "Baby Baby" are the no.3 of most viewed gg song in 2008. SNSD korean song "GEE" and "Genie" norminee in no.1 and no.3 of most viewed kpop gg mv in 2009, but this video doesn't count 2007, 2008, 2009. SNSD TTS "Twinke" supposed to be in the no.3 of most viewed kpop gg mv in 2012, but seen like the video didnt involved gg sub unit mv. Other than that, If this chart involved kpop Japanese MV, snsd will probably dorminate the chart with variety of song in every year, cuz snsd have the most viewed Japanese girls group mv from 2010-2014. SNSD will seldom have comeback in Korea and Japan in each years, sometime they will not have a comeback in korea cuz they are too busy in others country attend variety of show and having concert touring, snsd is not like other kpop girls group only focus and comeback at korea in every years, snsd have too much stuff to do. SNSD didnt have a comback in korea in 2012 and 2016, but snsd having comeback in japan in 2012, but this video didnt involved kpop japanese mv, so i think this is really unfair for snsd. And SNSD started their solo career in 2016 and don't have group comeback in 2016, so they also didn't norminee.

For the generation the easiest way for the 1st 2nd 3rd is to look at SM basically lol 1st gen started with H.O.T in 1996 (excluding Seotaiji and the boys because they are a bit different) 2nd gen started in 2003 with tvxq, 3rd gen started with exo in 2012 and for me 4th gen started around 2018-2019 when exo started to slow down and went to the military but the 4th gen start is not something people agree on lol also there is a 2.5 gen with people like Infinite, Teen Top, A pink etc. Hope it can help you a little bit ☺️

Also, we actually meant that some of the numbers, since they are not of just that year, but cumulative over time are not reflective of _the group or song’s popularity in that given year_ since eg. BTS only became so popular a bit later on in their career. so those older songs of theirs gained all those views in later years and not at that time. As for the crazy increase in numbers, yes, kpop has become a much bigger thing than it was, but it’s also very important to note that ‘streaming culture’ also became a thing.

Actually Twice was dominating the year 2015-2017(?) in terms of popularity and youtube views. Blackpink became super big because of DDD (year 2018). The number of views are total number from when it was released until now. 😊 Waleska was right that DDU DU DDU DU is the first MUSIC VIDEO of BLACKPINK to hit 1B views 😊
