There were 3 major turning points. First was Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon and Pokemon which introduced people to anime (thought they still thought it as cartoon). Post-2005, people had bigger exposure and recognised how anime was different from western cartoons. Then post-2011, anime streaming became an option and people no longer depended on TV to watch what they wanted
@fc3sturbogtr3 ай бұрын
A big factor in that post 2005 can be credited to Haruhi Suzumiya. The abundance of LN to anime adaptations exploded after The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya came out. Anime was largely either manga based or anime original up to that point. LNs already have a fan base, so unfortunately, a safer investment than OG anime. I genuinely enjoy watching something no one can either spoil or read ahead on so i miss those times lol

Here in my country there is a way earlier turning point that introduced boomers to anime. Shows like voltes v, machingerz, etc.

my cousin that we adopted because her mother, my auntie, says she is financially unstable to raise her, named her Haidi after the cartoon "Heidi" because she used to watch that show. my aunt died due to cancer back in 2006 and her daughter now that we treat as real siblings is now a board passer and a licensed teacher ☺

I love Yuji Ohno, the man who composed the songs for all the Lupin shows. He made my love for jazz stronger. Every season of Lupin always had a different jazz version of the theme song. I definitely love the ending songs for the show called "Love Squall" and "Love Theme", those are so iconic. There's also a beautiful boxing anime called Hajime No Ippo which had the song "Inner Light" by Shocking Lemon and it was awesome! There was also a show called Great Teacher Onizuka and the theme song "Driver's High" by L'Arc-En-Ciel was extremely relaxing and catchy. Right now in the show called De-De-De-Destruction, the ending song of the same name by Ano is crazy and fun! What I love about anime music is that they're not afraid to get complicated in terms of musical composition. Instead of just sticking to just four chords, they can use a lot more depending on the kind of emotion they're trying to evoke. They're also not afraid to use other musical instruments as well. In the west, a lot of songs don't involve the piano anymore, but in anime music, you can always prominently hear the piano even in rock music. There are so many sounds that aren't "standards" that they incorporate into the songs and that's what makes their anime music sound so unique and flavorful. I definitely love the 90s anime music sound. It's still in the era of Japanese "City Pop" which I adore. For example, one of the songs from one of the Sailor Moon movies was "Kiss the Starlight" by Emi Shinohara. That's the type of song you'd probably hear at night while exploring the city or partying and driving around with friends. It's very relaxed, very chill, with the good old DX piano sound with some 80s/90s beats. Another song with a similar vibe from Ranma 1/2 is "Positive" by Morikawa Miho, very nice and relaxing and happy. For more 70s/80s drama sound, I love the theme song "Hana No Sasayaki" by Satoko Shinomari from the show A Little Princess Sara. For a little bit more soul, I love "Yuudachi" by Suga Shikao from the show Boogiepop Phantom. There's just so many anime songs that are so lovable!

2:23 ``Sazae-san'' is still being aired as a TV anime. It is the longest anime in Japan. This year marks the 55th anniversary of the anime broadcast. Among the anime introduced here, ``Doraemon'', ``Chibi Maruko-chan'', ``Anpanman'', ``Crayon Shin-chan'', and ``Detective Conan'' ゛ONE PIECE〝are currently being broadcast. Although it is not available here, there is also ``Nintama Rantaro''.

Hi, Filipino here, ty for reacting to this video. tbh, I found my love for guitar because of anime music. Been saving up for a setup to try and do anime song covers just in guitar and create a yt channel in the future. Also been watching anime since the 90's, its my whole childhood until now that im an adult still watch anime from time to time. Im glad anime became popular because at school I was bullied for watching it during high school and sometimes in college. It's good so now no one can be criticized as much by loving anime like before
@theguywhoasked-r7e2 ай бұрын
Huh where in the Philippines? Im from the Philippines to, but every millennials I know have all watched anime when they were a kid, till now. idk why you would get bullied, if everyone did. Even my father watches anime and hes like 54yrs old, the same goes for my uncle which is like 65+yrs old

Streaming anime started earlier than you'd expect, Efra. It started way back in 2005. And I agree with Wale that AoT changed the anime game in terms of international appeal, but I'd argue the anime before it in the list, SAO, opened the doors to isekai anime, the dominant genre today, despite barely being isekai itself.

In India lots of people watched Pokémon or Naruto first, but I watched Heidi, Dragon ball, Cardcaptor Sakura, Shonan moguri (the jungle book in Hindi), after 2011 I got to know that these are anime what I watched in my childhood (my fav.) in 2004 when Animax channel broadcasted in India then I watched many cool no interesting anime especially Inuyasha left me with impression 💙

I didn't know Astroboy was waaay older than me it's the most precious as it was the first one that introduced me to anime, Candy Candy and Dragon Ball Z were like my childhood but i think the biggest one (at least in our country) would be Voltes V. huge until now (though it was not included in this clip 😅).

This is my own bias but the most impressive thing, musically speaking, in my lifetime of watching anime is Egoist being created in 2011 *specifically* for the anime Guilty Crown. The music in that anime is phenomenal, Hiroyuki Sawano being involved and all. But the group Egoist far outlived the anime it was created for and continued doing anime OPs, concerts etc until disbanding in 2023.
