Elaine Duran is the Champion of Tawag ng Tanghalan (TNT) (meaning Call to stage) SEASON 3. It is among the toughest and oldest singing competition in the Philippines. It started in 1954, originally known as the PURICO amateur hour. PURICO is a cooking oil brand and was the first sponsor of this competition, it ended in 1972 when martial law was declared by Marcos. It was revived in 1987-88 but did not do well. It was revived again as a segment of SHOWTIME, a lunchtime show in 2016 until sometime last year when ABS CBN was again shut down by the govt. The TNT BOYS were among the products of this competition where, Francis placed 5th, Mackie 3rd, and Kiefer 2nd place. The TNT BOYS group was accidentally formed when they guested MAGANDANG GABI VICE (meaning GOOD EVENING VICE) when the winners were asked to sing spontaneously "And I am telling you" which went viral and the rest was history for the boys. Unfortunately, the Champion, Jon Clyde Halili, could not sing at that time as he had a hoarse throat. Back to Elaine, she is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Communication Arts. She only participated in national competitions after she graduated college as she lives far south in Butuan (Mindanao). And do you know that she has a sister (Elaijane) who sings & is as talented in singing as Elaine, but has not participated yet in any national singing competitions?
