Yes! Came across this song earlier in the summer, very powerful and I am sure represents all cultures. I know my grandmother spent her life being a servant and gave birth to 4 children. Even at a young boy I recognized the imbalance in the relationship. She was precious to me and I regret not learning spanish so I could understand her world better. I appreciate I was there to hold her hand as she passed just me and her.

It is such a powerful and damning song against all of the ways that the patriarchy gets into everything. I would like to think I am a pretty progressive and supportive guy, but I have ended up doing some of these things, particularly the mental and emotional labor I put on others. I am working on it and trying to be better, but it is such a pervasive message that society communicates to us that for a lot of people (such as myself) we aren't doing it deliberately, but we ALSO need to take the steps to actively unlearn these things and be better partners and take on our proper share of the relationship burdens

I love your reaction to this so much. My grandma was this woman too, but she loved every minute of it, and my grandpa was never cruel to anyone. But I think if you choose to live like this, its ok but not if you are forced to.
