Thanks very much for that tip. I'll ensure I eat before my walk(s) rather than after. I've got things completely topsy turvey.

Good advice but I would like to add to this. Weight lifting is almost a cure all. Do some research. People with larger quad muscles have healthier hearts, muscle consumes a lot of calories and also elevates your metabolism, a higher protein diet can lower your consumption of bad foods by helping you feel full longer. It's also great for mental health by the endorphins released while lifting weights. In my personal experience from injuries, muscle mass can help stave off needed surgeries by stabilizing the joints and lowering pain levels. Just do some research on weight training and see what you think about it.

Sadly not an option for me with muscular dystrophy. But I do some modified standing exercises after dinner.

That's understandable, but if you're not a quadriplegic, you can modify his recommendation. Doing a light resistance workout in bed/sofa/wheelchair (e.g. pressing up a backpack or other weighted item) will have a similar effect by activating muscles. Don't go hard. Consistency is the key!

Studies show that walking after eating reduces blood sugar spikes better than exercise before meals. The vigorous exercise you do regularly is good & important for your health as you build strength and endurance, but a gentle walk or just standing as you are doing the dishes, sweeping the kitchen, & decluttering the living spaces will reduce/eliminate the post-prandial blood sugar spike. Blood sugar spike stimulates insulin, and elevated insulin leads to fat storage. So instead of useful energy production for your muscles, that glucose goes to fat and eventually insulin resistance & inflammation as a person gets bigger & bigger fat cells.
