This is a walking video from Munich Main Train Station München Hauptbahnhof to Viktualienmarkt - der Markt vo n München via Marienplatz München-Altstadt-Lehel,
Munich, Bavaria’s capital, is home to centuries-old buildings and numerous museums. The city is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and its beer halls, including the famed Hofbräuhaus, founded in 1589. In the Altstadt (Old Town), central Marienplatz square contains landmarks such as Neo-Gothic Neues Rathaus (town hall), with a popular glockenspiel show that chimes and reenacts stories from the 16th century.
Munich Central Station ( IATA station code ZMU ) is the central train station in the Bavarian capital Munich . With a total of 413,000 travelers and visitors every day (2019), it is the third busiest long-distance station of Deutsche Bahn after Hamburg Central Station and Frankfurt Central Station . It has been under renovation since 2019.
The terminal station is one of the 21 train stations in the highest price class 1 of DB Station & Service . Of all German train stations, it has the highest number of platform tracks, with 32 above-ground and two underground, and (after Grand Central Terminal in New York City ) the second-highest number of platform tracks in the world. With the exception of the S-Bahn, the station is the first or last stop for almost all trains that arrive there. The total area of the buildings and tracks is approximately 760,000 square meters.
Marienplatz (English: Mary's Square, i.e. St. Mary, Our Lady's Square) is a central square in the city centre of Munich, Germany. It has been the city's main square since 1158.During the Middle Ages, markets and tournaments were held in the Marienplatz, which was originally called Markth ("market"), Schranne ("grain market") and later Schrannenplatz ("grain market square"). After said grain market was moved into the modern glass-and-iron Schranne near "Blumenstrasse" in 1853, the square received its new name, starting 9 October 1854.Marienplatz was named after the Mariensäule, a Marian column erected in its centre in 1638 to celebrate the end of Swedish occupation. Today the Marienplatz is dominated by the New City Hall (Neues Rathaus) on the north side, and the Old City Hall (Altes Rathaus, a reconstructed gothic council hall with a ballroom and tower) on the east side.
The Glockenspiel in the tower of the new city hall was inspired by the tournaments that were held in the square during the Middle Ages, and draws millions of tourists a year. Furthermore, the pedestrian zone between Karlsplatz and Marienplatz is a crowded area with numerous shops and restaurants.
The Viktualienmarkt in the heart of Munich’s historic city centre was originally a farmers’ market and herbal market. Today, the Viktualienmarkt is a favourite place for connoisseurs and gourmets and for visitors, who can find everything their heart desires here, from urban Bavarian goods to exotic fruits. The market used to be located on Munich’s Marienplatz until the beginning of the 19th century, and over time changed from a small market to today’s Viktualienmarkt. At first, the square was simply called Marktplatz and only later became Viktualienmarkt due to the late Latin word Viktualien, an expression for food. It was not until 1890 that the Viktualienmarkt reached its current size, with a few additions such as the pavilions for fruit sales and a North Sea fishing hall
