When I was in Europe, I usually went to a bakery, got a small loaf of bread, went to the butcher and got some hard salami that doesn’t need refrigeration, and got some cheese. Snack or lunch, it was good. Saved a lot of money, and it worked wherever I was - France, Belgium, or Germany.

My wife and I lived on that in Paris. We also carried a couple of those little airline sized wine bottles which we would fill up before we left our BnB. Their whole grain bread was fabulous and cheese and ham was quite affordable. Only problem was I had to carry a knife of some sort to cut the bread and I kept getting it confiscated when I went in a museum or gallery. But I eventually got smart and began hiding it in a nearby garden.

@@JimmyandNatalie I hope you can find some small shops for your supplies. Meeting people in a small shop is a great experience. You would be surprised how far pointing at something and asking “wie viel kostet es” can go.

While in the USAF we spent 3 years in Germany. By far our best assignment. You need to treat yourself to a Jaegerschnitzel dinner. The bakeries in Germany are outstanding as well as in Innsbruck if you go to Austria. Do forget to visit some of the old castles throughout Germany. If you have tome go to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Enjoy .

That was a great shot of Natalie with the pretzel and dunkel bier. Natalie didn't have to say she was happy; I could see it in her smile. Dunkel is my favorite, too; and Hofbräuhaus is my favorite brew house in Munich. Pro-tip: you can only order the liter mugs after 6 PM, no half-liters. Check out some of the other Oktoberfest Breweries in Munich. I think there are six.

Apfelschnecken literally translates to apple snails, probably because it’s rolled up like that. I’ve been a few times in Bavaria, but never to Munich. Whenever I’m in a public building like that, I live by the rule that as long as there isn’t a locked door, I’m probably allowed to be there. 😅 You’re probably no longer in that area/have already made your itinerary, but 129 km north of Munich is Nuremberg, also a very interesting city. I live 5 minutes from the German border, so I regularly get my groceries there, and whenever I do, I buy a pretzel to snack on, on my way back home.

Travel tip: avoid those ATMs that say CASH or Eurostar, Volksbank Reifeisenbank, or have something in English. they usually take high fees. Use ATMs from Sparkasse, Commerce Bank, Deutsche Bank, Postbank or ING. Most ATMs have a little sticker that tells you what card comes with what fees. For example, the Hamburger Sparkasse takes 5 Euros for non-member master cards but no fees for Visa and Maestro/EC so you only end up paying your own bank's conversion rate.

Just a little clarification. the Eisbachwelle definitely isn't put there for the surfers on purpose. Its just the spot where the underground spot reaches the surface again and to prevent it from eroding the canal floor, they put a ledge there that creates this continuous standing wave.
