There are few things more irritating when watching an advisory type of video than being told "There are better ways to spend your money" or " There are better solutions." Then not being told what those better alternatives actually are. So cheers, but in the absence of any alternative I'll continue to believe that this is the best solution for me.

There are work arounds especially for people who really need this as an option and, may I add, they're muy comfy. Most have heated seat so keep your towel or robe while it fills, start cleaning the wet bits while it fills or use the shower attachment to get the party started then relax once it fills up. They're a great investment, all about perspective.

For someone that’s disabled this is definitely probably something useful but my plan was to basically use it as a hot tub but after watching the video I recognized that this was not something that I needed and if I ever decided to sale this house and fact that maybe the potential buyers have small children could be a hindrance in the sale of the house . Thank you for your help in making my decision . And for anyone that is disabled my heart goes out for you because both my parents ended up becoming my children and luckily I had the finances and physical size ( I’m very physically fit) to take care of them.

Most people rip the bathroom out and start fresh. Even if the bathroom is budget . Only time I've seen anyone keep a bathroom as is , was when it was perfect

The newer ones have double drains. Some have double fill without losing water pressure. Plus the heated seat you can turn on while you're letting the water fill. We usually always have to top off a tub with some hot water Anyways as it cools down in a regulartub, but to have those Hydrotherapy jets feels so good & relax your body & easy in & easy out. I understand but🎉 I think it's so worth it... Wall mounted tv on swivel, Ice bucket with drinks, Aroma therapy, colored lights. Bluetooth music, This is a whole new level of calgon take me away!

We got one for my dad after his stroke. I recommend getting something completely different. There isnt enough room to maneuver a paraplegic. The fact that you have to sit there while it fills and then again while it drains is in itself a huge reason not to get these tubs. Imagine sitting there in the winter waiting for it to fill and drain. We ended up taking the door off and just using it as a shower, and even then it was ridiculous.

When your a senior or are disabled and want to continue to care for yourself and be as independent as possible....this would be worth all the hassel and miner issues mentioned by the person who narrated. For many of the aboved mentioned....to get clean, safely, many things would need to happen if one doesn't have a bath like this that would be much more time consuming and risky.

All these opinions amd thoughts coming from people who've never owned or used a walk-in bathtub. And for crying out loud, if I were going to opt out of purchasing a walk-in bathtub, this certainly is mot the video that I'd use to make my decision. Perhaps I can provide some pros and cons that will provide prospective buyers a bit more of an overall picture. I want to clarify that I do not work for any company that makes walk-in bathtub. In fact, I left work 3 years ago to move in with and provide full time, in-home Healthcare for my father. In January of 2020, he had double heart valve replacement surgery (aortic & mitral valves). This is in addition to being end stage renal on home hemodialysis where I am his care partner and do his dialysis 5 times per week as well as having cirrhosis of the liver (NASH) as a result of being administered far too much iron (he's anemic, the dialysis centers frequently administer iron due to anemia and apparently do not monitor ferritin levels). Anyhow, the heart surgery was rough. He barely survived it. I'm certain if he weren't full code he would not have come out of that operating room. Hospital check-in: 1/16/20; ultimately discharged and came home on 4/1/20. He was away for 3 months. I knew he'd never be able to use the bath tub again which I know he enjoys. So I began hunting during the late nights for a walk-in bathtub back at home when dad was stil recovering. Here is my experience: I purchased from American Standard. Two primary reasons: lifetime warranty on EVERYTHING bumper-to bumper, including seals and jet motors and because AS's main hub is here in the area where I live so reaching their offices and getting to them as necessary is easy. AS has a great, many years long established reputation and they sell a good product. It is true, I paid just under 20K (I think it was like 19 thousand, four hundred something) . Sounds high yes, but, I required a slight modification which meant widening my bathroom door, replacing with a new, wider door and reversing the plumbing such that my bathtub sits facing opposite what our original bathtub did. It takes approximately 5 minutes to fill. I do not freeze while waiting. There are upper and lower jets. As soon as the first level of jets are under water, I can crank them on. I strongly recommend a 50 gallon hot water heater or larger. (You are given a $500 automatic rebate towards the purchase of a future new water heater because they age more quickly with walk-in tubs. Until last week, I was doing fine just replacing the heating elements and thermostats myself but, due to my bad move , insisting the anode rod be replaced, I now have a newer model Rheem performance plus 50 gallon electric). The new heater cost about $750.00 at Home Depot, I used one of their rental trucks to bring it home (Surprisingly, I can get a lot into my mazda 3 but not a water heater), installed it myself in 30 minutes. Very simple. The tub has some 44 or 45 jets, whirlpool, chromatherapy (multiple colors of light to choose from which are selected on a panel. This panel has 4 controls: jets, air, lights & drain). About the drain: it has some mechanism which speeds up drain time. Takes 2 minutes. I am almost always completely dry before I step out. The funny thing is, you can get dry without even using a towel. The tub features aromatherapy as well. Butvif you remember those little decorative shell soaps at you grandparent's house in the bathroom - what is provided smells like those. Better choices are available elsewhere. Not a reason to decline a walk-in tub. The upper jets are controlled by a turn know in the tub. These hit your low back and forearms. The other jets hit your legs and feet. I have 2 safety bars: 1 in the tub and 1 stepping out. There is also a bar for the shower head to slide up & down on. The door opens inward so there is always outward pressure due to the water being full. I have not had a single problem with a leak. My tub has an inline heater. They say it doesn't but I frequently have to drain and cool my water. It will always return back to it's hot temperature. There is a filter that removes any organic matter that is dumped into the drain. The tub has an ozonator. Your water will always be ozonated which is good for a number of reasons especially for cuts and wounds (another highlight in my decisionmaking part my dad's case). I selected to have heavy, chrome hardware. Admittedly, the shower head is chincy. Again, no reason to decline. I know that I requested the best they had to offer and that there are less expensive options. Cleaning is not hard but more involved that a standard tub. I clean mine after each and every use. It's a personal choice. I use cascade dishwashing detergent. Your water usage will increase some as will your water bill but nothing like you'd expect. It's really having your own, personal, accessible at all times indoor jacuzzi. I'm looking at installing a skylight directly over mine. The only communication that has been necessary between AS and myself since installation was a follow up to confirm my satisfaction immediately following the install. What I selected also came with a new toilet amd a bidet (really was not sure about this but both men & women can use and once you do, you'll wonder how you ever did without). For any who are curious, I know that there are some walk-in tubs that have jets in the genital area. This is not one of them. I think I covered most everything. Feel free to ask me any questions. Again, I do not represent anyone or anything but myself. This is my personal experience. **yes, I thought Safe Step's shower design was a aesthetically cool looking but they're in Tennessee (I believe if I recall correctly) and the company with the glass door looked really awesome (I think they have the genital jets too, maybe. Could be not remembering correctly) but ultimately for me, it came down to great reputation, warranty and accessibility. I hope this helps.

This guy points out good things to think about but I feel he is talking for the general public, in regards to having one of these. I do not think young/healthy people would even think of such a thing but for a lot of people once they hit a certain age these tubs are sometimes a must to take care of yourself in a safe way. I also do not like comments like there are better ways to spend your money, when he offers zero resolutions for that comment. Maybe his comment is simply, you go to a nursing home?

You’d think an inspector would understand water displacement and how when a person is in that tub it takes a lot less water to fill up. Also, you’d think an inspector would understand that the speed at which a tub drains is determined by the drainage system in the house. I’m just going to leave it at that.

but you can get in easily using the door and immediately start a light shower to relax after sealing the door without waiting. And if you plug the hole you will also gather water if you want to enjoy a bath as well. I mean it's still a good product if you have the need, the cash and space for it.

I do plan on getting one of these for my mom within the next 1-2 years for her own bathroom. She is getting older and it's very very hard for her to get in and out of the normal standard bathtub. She currently has a chair with back support and hand rails to help her get in and out and take a standard bathub, but for an actual bath, she doesn't really have an option just because of how low the urrent bath tub is. Have you tried shaving your legs in a bathtub while taking a shower? What about trying to clean hard to reach places? For older individuals who have a hard time standing or can't bend down to sit in the tub, what do you do? It's amazing to me that bathtubs have not advanced in the last 60+ years. Why are bathtubs so low to the ground ? What are the other alternatives to walk-in tubs? The majority of people getting these are older individuals. Your options become very slim when individuals do not have much space, so again what is the alternatives?

I am 65 years, ten months and six days as of this comment. Having a shower area where a wheelchair can roll in is great to have. I live in a senior housing. I do not have a wheelchair, but my neighbors who are wheelchair confined get to roll themself into the shower area. It is also large enough for them to have home healthcare worker assist them. I use my shower to put my portable washer/spinner to do laundry as often as I like. I purchased the shower head with the long extension to put the water in. I use a foot stocking over the washer hose to catch the lint preventing lint clogging in the pipes. I would like to know if a tub drain can fit in the walk in tubs to catch hair and possible jewelry and other stuff. I am glad to watch this video as I no longer have to think about ever purchasing one. I would love a tub for soaking in epsom salt for when I get a cold or for aching pains. Other than that a tub is not sanitary as a person sits in dirty water while bathing which in my opinion causes problems with the vaginal or penis area. As I age, I find myself using cotton balls in the morning to wipe under my armpits. I use baby wipes to wipe my genital area. So much water is used to clean the body that is excessive. The main parts for personal hygiene is the mouth, ears, nostrils, underarm and genital areas. The rest of the body can be wiped down. The skin is the largest body organ. Sitting in a tub is probably why people have skin diseases. Thanks for reading my comments. Smiles

my mom is disabled and getting hard for her to move around, she went and bought one of these on her phone... $12000 dollars later the drain is broken and does not tub.. it only sits down shower. It has a Lifetime warranty... if you can get someone to come fix it, and they usually want money for Labor $110 per hour . 2 years now we have had trouble with the water shutoff.. the pump for something... 1.5 hrs. the afore mentioned labor ccost and the drain does not seal , and now has come off/ unattached though it still has the screw in the bottom?? Its hard to Shower someone or even Bath someone because they have to be rinsed off in the end essentially ending with a shower. The Last Thing is as a Care Giver , I always get wet... tub, shower, or rinsing, or moving someone. The Only person i would reccommend this for is a person that is Mobile and likes to Sit in the Shower and ! Hot Tub.good jets rolling boil nice. Its A great Hot Tub for 1 For Sure

Handicapped accessible showers of any kind. Flat floors with slight slopes to the drain. They often have seats on a rail that slide back and forth. There is also slide in tubs which are less likely to cause entrapment because it has a sliding door and not a swing door. Wheelchair bound folks can be transferred into it and easily sat up into place by a care taker or doing so themselves.

When I first saw walk in baths, the thing that came in my mind was... Do u need to wait for water to get full sitting in the tub and wait for it to drain in the tub!? That's crazy 🤣 But I guess what I imagined was true haha. I rather get naked after the tub is full and get our right after I start draining the tub... I guess this is useful if ur only taking a shower in it and you can't lift ur leg up to get in or something.

How do these tubs affect the hot water heater? Wouldn't you have to empty the whole tank and leave no hot water for anyone else in the house, for a while, to fill one of these tubs? Or do they have their own separate heaters? Does it depend on the brand, like some have heaters and some don't?

They have fast fill and fast drain options, but they cost so much. Honestly, considering who they're intended for (elderly and disabled), what they charge is obscene. For more than $7,000 (for a decent model) they should be made out of sturdier material and come with full demolition and installation. Neither insurance, Medicare, nor Medicaid pay for these. If I'm going to pay up to $20,000 for a freaking tub so I can take a bath with my broken back, it better come with a lifetime warranty, massage every inch of my body while gently playing music, and the door should open with a voice command. Then it should thank me for using it and clean itself.

I'm not sure I'd want to wallow in a tub filled with the same dirty, soapy water for several minutes AFTER I bathed in it! I'd probably take a shower FIRST, then fill the tub with added epsom salt, soak in that for at least 20 minutes, drain the tub and rinse off again under the shower. Typically these should have an access panel to allow for replacement of the motor and or jets.

I don’t see an issue with waiting in the bath to fill it or drain it … I do the same thing in a “normal” tub. This guy probably puts both pant legs on at the same time.

As soon as water start running. I get in as well. It's efficient. Here in Africa water is an expensive commodity, thus waiting on it to fill up is just too much of a luxury.

This is nonsense. It also can be used as a shower if waiting for it to fill up is such an inconvenience but unlike handicap accessible shower you at leas have the option for a bath if you want one. And Except for the time to fill and drain I didn’t hear any other con in this video…

One con I have read about not mentioned in the video is that they are not good for diabetics. Burns are a big concern for diabetics with regular tubs and even for for walk-in tubs because you have to seated in the tub while it fills.

it takes 8 minutes to fill. it takes the same process getting out......it took 2 minutes to drain..... okay....for an elderly disable person who cannot lift themselves into a tub. this is fine.

Why does it have to be so expensive .?. Why cant you just have a bath like that fitted with the door and just ealk in ,say half fill it ,have your bath ,let it drain while you are standing drying yourself ,and then open door and step out .Why does it have to be electrically wired ,and have thermostatic valves instead of hot and cold taps.😮

There are lifts that are very high but the higher the more risk. It's not ideal to lift that high regularly. It's ideal to have a walk in shower instead...

Don’t get a cheap walk-in tub like this! When the chain breaks on that chintzy plug you are STUCK in the tub! Not safe! Also, the water in a Safestep tub is kept at the temp you set it for. So you don’t get cold while you are soaking or in the 1-2 minutes it takes to drain. And what’s with that crazy lever on top? Accidentally hit it and you open the door and have water all over your bathroom. You are critiquing a clearly inferior product. Get a SafeStep with expert installation and a lifetime warranty. You won’t ever regret your purchase.

Imagine dying in one of those things. Say, a sudden heart attack. You would turn into a putrid soup within a few days. No thanks. Sorry for the graphic imagery, but I used to do carpet cleaning and ''disaster'' clean up. I've handled several suicides and unattended deaths. Water and a dead body is always a horror show. A body immersed in water for days- It's beyond disgusting. The only thing that got me through it was a stomach that got stronger over time and the money I was going to BANG the insurance company for even showing up to do the job. Most people ain't hitting the ground running for that work. But, it happens. A lot more often than you'd think. Thousands of people die each year while taking a morning crap- then, they sit there for a few days, weeks, or even months depending on who knows them and if they pay their bills by autopay. Every day, somewhere in America, someone is walking into a bathroom - with a corpse that's been there a minute. You can tell by the maggots. Big and small.

What's the alternatives then?& the video ends!argghh! Come up with something else then, instead saying don't get!. The waiting for fill is something not thought of &for illness where fatigue plays a role, this is indeed serious& causes a severe problem. I'm not sure how to get around it, guess adding pumps to speed up water fill? But the ability to sit and wash with shower head, is amazing though yes walk in shower then!Crazy!2023& disability basics & bathing has still not advanced!
