Can you Install your own walk in bathtub? Save a fortune like I did and learn how I saved $10,000 - DIY
With a little effort this video shows you the finished product. These tubs are unique but in many ways they are easier to install than traditional tubs since they are built on a self supporting frame. In my case I don't need the medical part of this tub YET but it is a wonderful soaking tub , including led lights, whirlphool jacuzzi and even aromatherapy. Pretty amazing craiglist find with a little cleaning and effort for $300.
The retail on this tub is $11,700 not including installation. Save us craigslist.

I tried doing sales for one of these walk in tub companies. I won't say which one. They start out telling you it might be covered by Medicare when they know full well it is not. Next, they send out a salesman that is supposed to spend 3 or 4 hours going over a presentation with you. The quote finally comes in at 25k on payments of course. If you say no, they tell you they have last years model for 15k which most people will go for at that time. If you still say no, they can keep dropping the price down close to 10k, but the salesman makes nearly nothing. It's a racket. I've seen them for around 3k at Home Depot, etc., plus you still need to install it. I only made one sale and financing fell through. Total waste of time for me. Never felt good about their system either. They suck you into the sales position before you find out the process or pricing. They just promise you big money. It's high turnover.

Nice! it looks really nice. I’m an installer for [redacted] 😂. i’ve installed a couple 100 of these. One thing to keep in mind is to keep that door open when you’re not using it. that way the seal won’t get too compressed and cause a leak

Silver Cymbal you’re welcome my great aunt just recently got one installed in one of her bathrooms in her home it’s a larger model. But from viewing your walk in tub vs hers new walk in tub you have all the bells and whistle‘s all for an amazing price of (300 dollars.) I’m just amazed how well your setup and installation turned out, and I noticed how you said your bathroom was very small honestly it’s a nice size for a basement. I absolutely love the pocket sliding door it’s so much easier to enter and exit tight spots if you or someone you know is maybe disable or has a limited disability.

Question. Wondering how tall this is. When filled with water and you are sitting, will the water go to your neck? I am considering something like this because I have Psoriasis all over and need to sit and soak in a tub and as you probably are aware, regular 60" tubs are too small to get water up to our necks.

It's ended up being really amazing. For it's intended use its great but it's also like having a Japanese soaking tub. One tip is to always leave the door unlatched when not in use. This keeps the door gasket expanded and in the best shape. No leaks at all from the door and this unit even has a secondary drain in case a little comes out. Totally water tight in my install. Thank you for watching, please subscribe for more information as well. I will be posting additional videos showing the plumbing also.

Great bathroom. Just can’t understand why they don’t make it standard for the door to swing out instead of in on those tubs. Seems hard on an elderly persons legs to have to twist to bypass the door when closing it.
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. They all swing in because they use the weight of the water to seal the door tighter and it makes it impossible to open with a full tub even if you try. But you are correct, it is a little tricky and you have to swing your legs to allow the door to open which can be difficult if the person doesn't have full mobility.

Hi, did you have to crack the floor open to accomodate the plumbing. I'm looking at the same project in a house with a slab foundation and a contractor said I would probably have to break through the foundation to install plumbing for the jets. Didn't make sense to me. I'm replacing a standard tub

I thought that as well and one person I spoke said that theirs did. Either way in my case no one was paying for me, so I was thrilled to get the deal on Craiglist for this used one. I am very pleased with bow it came out and would recommend doing the same if you want obe of these tubs. Most folks selling them almost give them away. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

This isn’t a “very small” bathroom as you keep referring to. If this is, I’d like to see what you call a normal size bathroom. The typical four bedroom house has 2 1/2 baths. 5x8 is the typical (average) size full bath. Anything bigger is a luxury bath.

I keep seeing these tubs advertised and being sent advertisements for them in the mail but they honestly look like they have a cramped interior. I suspect the door would probably leak. Further when I look at video demos of them, they never tell you how to get out of them and it looks as if you'd have to wait until the tub fully drains before you could get the door open. I don't like the thought of being trapped like that. It's probably why people that own them re-sell them. I don't think you'd need one anyway. My grandma just bought a bath seat, which many companies make for elderly and disabled people. They're very sturdy and you simply sit on the edge of the tub and turn your butt to spin around and get into the tub and then can sit on the tub seat. I've got one from Rubbermaid and love mine. My disabled great grandma had one too and she used a wheelchair and was able to slide from her wheelchair onto the tub seat to take a shower. They had an ordinary bathtub in their house and the bath seat was made of plastic with a metal frame and was very sturdy and spanned the width of the tub inside. Mine from Rubbermaid brand is all made from plastic but is very sturdy. I've it had it 15 years now.

I looked up the shower seats and I saw that some styles are called "tub transfer seats". Those are the kind best used by someone in a wheelchair or that has limited mobility that has difficulty getting into a bath and they extend over the edge of the tub. They're not too expensive and many are less than $60. Check out medical supply stores. Even Goodwill has a Medical Supply store where you can get like-new items for a great price. They always had many bath seats there for less than $20. I also high recommend the Gator Grip tub mats. They are the best non-slip tub mats. You can buy them from their website if you can't find them anywhere local to buy them. They are so much better and safer than the suction cup type mats and line the entire bottom of your tub. A good bath seat and Gator Grip mat is a more affordable option to be able to use your existing tub.

A great deal for $300. But 10 grand? I don't think so. That like the upper end. Still, $6-7k is what the small walk ins go for if you want all the bells and whistles. For a full size bathroom just buy a regular tub and a walk in kit. When you buy a pre-made walk in you get hit with multiple retail penalties. Niche product, limited selection, stuck with whatever features and markup the mfg has decreed.

The reason it was available is that everyone removes them from their bathroom after their live-in grandmother dies. Stinks you gotta wait for the water to empty before you exit the tub.

That is true, some never get used at all, in prep for someone to come home from the hospital and plans change. The good thing is the drain is pretty fast, the filling it takes much longer.
