As a retired truck driver, I can attest to the beauty of this city. The problem is that it's a very dangerous city. It has one of the highest crime rates in the US. Anyone visiting there needs to grow eyes in the back of their heads. What a shame that there isn't the political will or civic intelligence to make it safe.

@ksvagabond I've been to every major city in the 48 contiguous United States as well as Canada while working as a driver. I've also been to many international cities while in the USMC. Does that answer your question on my travels. I know Portland is violent because of going there personally for more than 25 years. Maybe you should study the official crime statistics yourself before getting so defensive. I don't think "my take" on the situation has anything to do with. Facts are facts whether you or anyone else can accept them or not.
