People like Balasaheb happen as a natural course of action. In fact they happen as a form of reaction. It serves a purpose of balance of power. His crooked ways were a necessity once, as he had very few sources of power when he started out and he had to put a fight against political giants. On other hand as they became power themselves, Thakray family actually shed some of their shady ways and established themselves as a mainstream force in politics and now as a ruling force. On other hand this part is completely bypassed by BJP which used similar scare tactics like Shiva Sena, but continued doing so even after coming to power. A ruling party which behaves like opposition party in its aggression will surely confuse their voter base. On other hand Balasaheb considerably mellowed down in his old age, forged alliances, open backchannel diplomacy with even his opponents and overall made his party ready for some flexibility. Even when he behaved like a hegemonic patriarch throughout his life, his flexibility of approach and vision of future economics helped Mumbai and by extension Maharashtra quite a lot. Also we cannot dispute that most of Marathi politicians of his time were nowhere close to his political clout and intelligence and once who were, were his friends.

He held some values that was dear to him but some values werent so dear to others. Yes he was controversial but we wonder why cause he was a straight shooter as i called him a SNIPER without a gun. Indias history is very well doumented where the invasions, forced cultures, rent & land were out of control, women were in fields, raped, pillaged, origin of HINDU way of living where its the only place these people want peacfull life with their thoughts n emotions and retain what they believe in. Every country has some identity but INDIA is one country people recognize immediately cause she has endured many atrocities from the days of pre MOGULS, in fighting with the kingdoms and ritrd BRITISH who almost destroyed BHARATH but they always bounce back which is why she is the oldest civilised culture on this planet, Vedas, Ithihassa, Ramanya, Mahabharath, etc that many don't understand but open all senses then you should realize.
