Walk with me | Ep. 6 - Shimla, Himachal Pradesh | Breathtaking Evening stroll on The Mall & Ridge

Sep, 2023: This video starts at the west end of the ridge just by the scandalous Scandal Point location of Shimla. We take in the views of the dim sunlight of the setting sun shining over the colonial buildings of The Ridge a few hundred meters into the distance.
But before we can move any further east towards the main areas of the Ridge we decide to take a turn and move back westwards towards the setting sun. We walk past the rather recently restored Bantony Castle sitting on a hill of the same name. A little further ahead we enjoy a freshly made hot bread omelette as a sun looks pretty now sitting further away and further down on the hilly horizon of this once summer capital of India.
Re-energized from the hot treat we head back eastwards once again to reach the Ridge and Mall road area and explore the evening views and charm of this area. This time we take a right from the Scandal point to walk along The Mall to begin with. But then we try to switch over to the higher ground of the Ridge, taking the steep set of stairs that connect these two popular locations of Shimla. The evening sky looks beautiful as it shines in the now blurry light of the setting sun.
As we ascend towards the Ridge we are greeted by the pleasant views of the lightly lit Christ Church that was the first church of Shimla. catering to the population of Christians and Anglo-Indians who lived here. Once at the Ridge we feel the atmosphere getting more lively as more and more people gather here to experience the famous sunset views from this spot. We witness wide views of the evening sky dimly lit by the light of the setting sun.
We decide to go over to the other side of the Ridge and then descend down towards the Lakkar Bazar area of the city, an area that looks busier, chirpier, and different from the other colonial looking spots of the city. We spend some time amid this buzz of Lakkar Bazar, enjoying the bright colored brightly lit shops, the street food, and the locals and tourists roaming here for their evening strolls or their evening shopping.
After a few minutes we come back up over to the Ridge, this time witnessing an absolutely stunning golden orange blue sky west of the Ridge. The views from this elevated platform on the eastern end of the Ridge, just by Christ Church are truly breathtaking. We can feel the sheer beauty of this momnt just as much as we feel the crisp chill of the Shimla evening that was soon giving way to the much colder Shimla night.
We soon start our walk westwards along the Ridge, moving in the same direction where we saw the sun set earlier in the evening. As we walk we notice the complete dark of the evening now, with the lights of the Town Hall and Gaiety Theatre looking pretty and very instrammable. At the end of the Ridge just in front of the Scandal point, we take seat at one of the benches and watch the world pass by here in Shimla. The video ends right here as we relax and talk after a long fruitful evening stroll in this once summer capital of India.

Nice! Do you plan to explore other areas of Shimla too or only Mall Road and adjacent things?

I do plan to go a bit away from this area too. But will mostly go as far as I can walk from here.
