Thank you so much for posting this! I'm glad that Anne Bronte is buried in such a lovely location in her beloved Scarborough and that there are flowers from those who visit her grave! She deserves to be well remembered and have more recognition as one of the greats of English literature!

Hi Jan, Thank you for your comment. It was a place I have wanted to visit for a lot of years. It's so easy to get to from either North or South side of Scarborough as well.

It's well worth the walk. It was somewhere I'd always wanted to see but for years kids & the beach were the priority.

Thank you for this. And I agree with posters Simone and Lisa in that the accompanying music is nice; It sets the stage during your jaunt by being peaceful and uplifting-- yet tinged with a lilttle sadness. And when you arrive at the church and grave, it's hard (for me) not to feel that it seems so forlorned for Anne to be laying so seperate from the rest of the family. I am aware that Anne had a fondness for, and happy memories of Scarborough; and that it was her choice/wish to reside there to spare the burden for Charlotte and their father back home more grief than expected. I'm not too steeped in Bronte history, so perhaps someone can correct me if I am wrong, but from what I read, there was some discussing between A and C of possibly heading home to Haworth before she expired; to die at home? I interpreted the letters I read as Anne having, really, a true wish to be at home to rest with the family, but, true to her considerate nature to ease the pain of others, put on a face of contentment to be left in Scarborough. In any case, the finality is looked at (by me) through the lens of the years of time passing; and the stature of what they became to the world of literature; and how the siblings were so intertwined in their pursuits, and growing and living so provincial in Haworth, that it seems almost wrong that Anne is buried away from the rest. But, that sentiment is from the outside looking in. Anne's decision should be respected, and leave us contented that she knew best. It is a beautiful, peaceful place she resides; I can only imagine her fond memories of the sights (at the time) and persons she accompanied there. And I was unaware (or just forgot?) of the familial ties of her mother being from there; so there is another ward against isolation. I am hoping to be able to visit both the parsonage in Haworth and Anne's grave next summer. --The moors of Haworth, I will keep fingers crossed for a light drizzle and an overcast sky (like in your video) to appropriate the mood.

Thank you so much for your kind words about the video. I found your post very interesting and I do hope somebody who is more knowledgeable than I will read it also and be able to answer some of the questions your thoughts raised. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. You may enjoy some elements of the video linked here when my daughter and I went to Top Withins in the early 1990s very early on a Sunday morning and the weather proved suitably atmospheric. The video is titled "Heathcliff it's me! - Wuthering Heights, Haworth" kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6PcZaCJaLaJg6c

@@DodgersTrips Thank you for the link, that is a great video! Nice views; and you're right, atmospheric for sure with the early morning mist. I'm glad you mentioned that time of day; I may have to try around that time. Seeing the Falls and Top Withens is on my list of must-sees. I was unaware of the flood destroying the original bridge. Hats off to the Bronte Society for the rebuild...and so much more. Cant wait to walk that area for myself.

It is a beautiful church Mark I only wish we had gone in at the time. It is a reason to return one day though. I found out afterwards that there are shrapnel marks on the church from when the German Navy opened fire on the town.

Goodness, 28 years old 😞 I too wondered what she was doing in Scarborough, it seems really she should be with her family. Your videos have improved SO much Dodger, this one almost had me sea sick 🤢🤣

It was only last year after I retired that I bought a GoPro. Before that I was reliant on an old camcorder that, as you noticed, had no stabilisation.

Surely surely she should be with the rest of the brontes. She only went to Scarborough to get better. But didn’t. Bring her home to Yorkshire.

Interesting thought Loppsy. I wonder if there has been any suggestion of that happening in the past. At least in the family crypt she would be with her family. I very much appreciate you taking the time to comment.

I understand Charlotte was going to bring her home at a later date. She just wanted to spare her father the pain of yet another funeral. I think she should go home. 🙏

I don't know enough really to be able to say too much. There is another thought in the comments that it was Anne's wish to be buried in Scarborough. I suppose too many years have passed for any case for a reinternment to get anywhere.

I know Anne Bronte died at Scarborough but wondered why they buried her at Scarborough and not in Haworth with the rest of the family ?
@IreneJah3 жыл бұрын
Anne was buried in Scarborough because it was her wish. She spent holidays there with the Robinson family whom she used to work for as governess. Charlotte and her friend Ellen took her there in her final days.

Also their mother was from Scarborough so the family from mother's side lived there. It was also Ann's wish to be buried in Scarbrough.
