Hi Rob. I got my driving licence at Rosalie in the early 70’s. Hated doing hill starts there. It looked like you were walking under water where all the antique lights were hanging in The Empire theatre antique store. The lights looked like a school of jellyfish.

We used to live on top of the Commonwealth Bank (at 6.20) in the 60’s. Our father was the manager of the Bank. There’s 3 stories at the rear and my mother had a basket on pulleys to save carrying the washing up the stairs. Unfortunately the huge macadamia (bauple) nut tree that was in the backyard is now gone. We used to walk to Milton State school taking a shortcut through the grounds of the Marist Bros, Rosalie.

Moved into Milton right on the edge of where it crosses into Paddington a little while ago and it was a delight seeing the walk through so many familiar streets that I see on the daily with a bit of local history packed into it. Love your work Rob, you're an asset to SEQ's local history! I'll have to repeat this walk sometime in the near future.

I was there the day the Paddington Tram Depot was burnt down. My great grandfather used to own a shoe repair shop directly over the road. Those Paddington hills sure haven't got any flatter since I was a child, especially Cochrane St and Great George Street. My Dad used to go to that St Barnabas Church on Waterworks Road. I'm not interested in sport either. I was there just the other day. Thanks for the great video.

Love your vids. I lived in Rosalie around 1984. Hale st was just a street like most. The first good coffee was found at Aroma's on Hale. An old couch and nice time. My daughter worked in the la Boite Theatre when it was in Hale. Paddo hasn't changed much in 40 odd years. Cheers buddy. Hope you manage to keep these coming. From Oregon USA

I lived around Paddington for many years and even though I now live on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, I still miss my old stomping grounds sometimes. My parents grew up around Red Hill. Mum and dad met through his brother and his girlfriend I think. Pretty sure they all lived in Haughton Street. I can always remember heading there to visit our grandmother and there was a shop on Kelvin Grove Road that burnt down, and it sat as a burnt-out shell for some years. I'm enjoying your travel docos of Brisbane, Rob. They bring back childhood memories. I'm not sure if I mentioned it but I sometimes watch State Archive videos of places I know and load up the 'Queensland Globe' satellite page and compare the then and now differences. Weird huh? I'll get out and about again one day. Six years ago I was walking up to 20 kilometres or so a day just for fun. I need to start doing that again. One of the nicest walks I did was from Scarborough harbour to the old fish co-op on Cabbage Tree Creek, behind the Sandgate Golf Club, and back. I remember all that area from my early teens.

Great video again, Rob. I've been to Paddington a couple of times since I came back to Brissie. A friend shouted me dinner at Gambaro's because I used to talk about how good it was...'was' is now the operative word I think...very lacklustre meal. The other few times I've been is specifically to go to Retro Metro. A very cool shop.

@Fiona Ottley I know of the old Marist Brothers college and other religious buildings within the area, and certainly would have liked to swing by, but time was getting short and I had to choose what to go see and what to miss. As for the hidden little place in the antique centre, I think it might be a fairly recent addition as I don't recall ever having seen it on previous visits, though those were years ago.

I visited the Empire Revival a few years ago with my daughter. I had the strangest feeling while walking around and I said to my daughter, I think I’m going to see something here that used to belong to me. Within minutes we turned a corner and there on a mannequin was my formal dress from 1977; this would have been about 5 years ago that I saw it. It was the same size and same colour. The hair stood up on my arms when I saw it. So that’s my Paddington story.

I notice in your videos of suburbs of QLDs the local government have left the old places ly with the new .

If I was doing a two hour documentary then I could certain include a lot more.
