Yantai seems like a great place to visit and live in. Once again, this is a city that is racing to prosperity and modernity but still proud of its Chinese heritage. This historical area looks quite unique and very interesting. Great job Max! I just came back from China in March this year and I miss it so very much already. I hope that China will offer Visa-free visits for Canadians soon.

Foreign nationals from 54 countries are currently eligible for the 72/144-hour transit visa-free policies which are effective at 31 ports in 23 cities of 18 provinces in China. Canada is one of the 54 countries.

Therefore, one may visit the third country or region when the transit ends and book another ticket to a different third country and come back to China again with a new 144-hour visa-free transit. Of course, the 144-hour thing is like a free trial for first-time visitors with a limited time range. Some people may want to apply for a visa to stay longer afterwards.

We lived there for 6 years in the 200x. That time Yantai was just a sleeping beauty waiting for the prince to kiss! Have been there recently and the change and development is amazing. We like the cool and friendly people of Yantai: first feels like a rough charme, but actually very honest and warm people! Happy for the people of Yantai, how their life quality improved. The only negative part is the ongoing infrastructure projects crippling the traffic in certain areas. However this will be finished in the next 2-3 years. 烟台加油！

I didn’t know wether the vlogger visited Yantai Hill on this trip or not as the real historic English colonial architectures are located on that hill. Otherwise, what you saw may actually be commercial and residential buildings designed with western architectural styles. FYI, after the Second Opium War, Yantai and several other Chinese cities were forced to be opened as commercial ports according to the Treaty of Tianjin. In the late 19th century and early 20th century, China was forced to sign humiliating and unequal treaties with several Western countries and Japan. It is written in Chinese middle school’s history textbooks and it is a period of history that the Chinese people will never forget. Therefore, it is better to be more considerate with the wording under such history background.

But this one and Weihai have English/British influence being once part of the UK’s concessions on the Chinese mainland before passing over to Japan. Qingdao was once a concession of Germany/Prussian Empire

Apart from a few political loonies and their supporters, we Indians love China. India is a failing country with a bleak future, hence we are on the look out for fast developing countries around the world to look for jobs and residency. In case China need additional labour, we Indians are ready to move there and take up any job offered to us. Please offer us Chinese citizenship as well if the government can. 🙏
