Tikka is so cute. What a trusty trail dog. Thanks for the trip report! I just made reservations for Tonquin valley and the skyline trail for late September as a direct result of watching your videos. Thank you for the inspiration!

You'll enjoy both, and the weather is usually fantastic in September.

Thanks. It's a hike I've done before, so I was worried people would not like it. I tried to showcase something different. That's why we climbed to investigate the cave.

Great trip Marty!! BTW,of course we Americans know what an ice auger is. I probably used a Jiffy hand auger before you were even born. LOL. It does get cold here in Chicago as well. Thanks for sharing and ATB Mike!!

My awesome wife knew I was going a little stir crazy recovering from surgery so she took me for a drive on that Sunday. It was such a beautiful day! We did a loop that included Sask Crossing to Jasper. As we drove by the trailhead for Glacier Lake I was wishing I was doing what you were doing. Can’t wait to be strong enough to hit the backcountry again!
@Martyupnorth5 жыл бұрын
A nice drive in the mountains is a pretty good way to cure cabin fever. I was surprised that the store at Sask Crossing was open. I didn't stop in or check the price of gasoline. I'm sure it's up there. My oldest son just got a summer job in Nordegg. He's happy.

Thanks for noticing. I'm back to my 2015 weight. The last few year of constant air travel and hotel life have been hard. I never stopped running all this time, but it's the food that was killing me. I've only flow 4 times for business this year, so I've been mostly home and eating much better.

Hello sir, Do you have a book of all the trails in Canadian Rockies that I can buy and read about .
@Martyupnorth4 жыл бұрын
The best book is "The Canadian Rockies Trail Guide". You can find it in good Canadian book stores or on-line at canadianrockiestrailguide.com/books/

Perfect choice of trip location. Your boys are fine young men. Where does time go? I hear there is some salve you can use for dogs feet but is sold for another animal- can't remember what.
@Martyupnorth5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. We live on an acreage so Tikka spends a lot of time outside. Her pads are quite tough. It's still important to check dogs for injuries on the trail. I've seen "city" dogs in big pain on the trail because they have soft feet.

Hi Marty! Great videos! I just want to ask if hiking a dog off leash is permitted at the Banff National Park. I noticed Tikka was not on the leash on the trails and at the camp.
@Martyupnorth5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure there's a law against it. In fact, there's too many laws. We live in a "nanny state". I only take her on very remote trail where I don't encounter people. I never take her on popular trails where we meet other people. Too many rules in the parks. These days I hike more and more on crown land. One of these days I'll do a video just on national park mis-management. Thanks for the question.
@cpmedilo5 жыл бұрын
Hi Marty. Thanks for replying. Really appreciate it. I’m planning to hike and backpack with my GSD and thinking I am better off doing that on Crown lands. Any suggestions on where to go? Keep on doing those vids!

very nice! what is the name of the lake? how long us the hike from the trailhead?
@Martyupnorth5 жыл бұрын
The name of the lake is Glacier Lake. It's in the northern part of Banff national park in Alberta. The trailhead is 3 hours north of Calgary. The distance from the trail head to the lake is just over 9 km, with a moderate climb. A very easy hike, good for the early season.

@@lovemountains5517 Super easy walk. You'll get amazing views at the chairs. It's 1.2 km, so only 20 minutes with kids. Plus, you go over the North Saskatchewan river on a nice bridge.

Marty, have you summitted any of the mountains in Banff/Jasper? Are they technical climbs?
@Martyupnorth5 жыл бұрын
The Canadian Rockies offer every type of climbing. There are 100s of peaks that can be scrambled without gear. Some as high as 11,600' (Mount Temple). We also have 100s of technical climbs. Some are extremely challenging. Just this past April 3 climbers died coming down from Mount Howse. We also have great ice climbing opportunities. I'm not a climber, so you'd have to turn to someone else for more information. One thing to note, almost all our mountains are sedimentary rock, so very hard to climb even with gear. We don't have any granite rock.
