I like to imagine enough people are familiar with straight line missions that if they look out of their kitchen window and see someone scrambling through the woods and then across their garden they'll just be like "Ah, must be on one of those straight line missions I reckon."

@@sharkdom Well, it's spelt with a vowel at the beginning, but phonetically, which is the part that matters in the "a/an" distinction, it begins with the consonant /j/, called the "yod", which is that "yuh" sound at the beginning of unicorn.

Funny that’s how some people feel. My thoughts are that this is supposed to be a covert mission, with just a camera duct taped to your head. I really enjoy the low-fi nature of “other” straight line missions. But hey, that’s me.
@BakaTaco Жыл бұрын
I'm really glad GeoWizard made me find this channel, because it's really good content and nowhere near as popular as it should be. I don't think that it's "cheating" to have a support crew, but it isn't in the spirit of a straight line mission. Even so, the struggles are still real, if lessened. And more than that, there are no rules saying you MUST not have support with you, and you MUST do it exactly like GeoWizard did. So it's totally fair. Plus, it makes for a different style of content. It was hilarious to see the support crew bringing them nuggets to chow down on after a nice swim in the bog. Love the video, and I love that GeoWizard has inspired so many people to push themselves to do these difficult missions.
@phightinphil25 Жыл бұрын
I do think that people should be able to experiment and that there is no true way of doing a mission like this, but I do think for people doing this in a serious manner (not just someone looking to get out in the woods and fields, I would call that ruleset casual (not that these types of challenges can be casual, much like mountain climbing some pre is necessary) as its basically do whatever you like along the line including how harsh you score yourself) some defined rule sets that can be laid out in advance should be made. Perhaps with a set based on the Original Mission, stashes, sporadic support, you have to carry your gear that hasn't been stashed etc. I can think of a hardcore set as well something along the lines of you have to do x miles/km per day or more with no support other than what's in your pack and what you have stashed or you fail for those crazy enough to try. What the Fieldhouses are doing feels distinct enough to be its own challenge in the same spirit, it's more like a very slow and difficult race as opposed to a long trek with the same difficulties.

Having now seen at least one complete mission on all four channels in question (Geowizard, Marcus the Chess Teacher, Ally's Adventures and yours), I have to say you are by far my favourite. Geowizard is interesting, he takes on the challenge, but is somewhat too technical. Ally takes the easy way too often - it is still in platinum but impure. I'd like to see his Burdell score... About Marcus - someone who is so unprepared, afraid of a flock of sheep that is probably more afraid of him, etc. Not sure if I will give his further missions I still did not watch a go at all. You on the other hand are well prepared, you stick to the line, and you make a joke out of it with your floating equipment, commentary and little challenges in between you on the way. Keep on this way!

Golf courses and farms - you have a right to walk through these in Scotland. See the statutory guidance on the right of responsible access. For golf courses all you need to do is stay off tees and greens (fairways are fine). For farms you need to avoid the farm yard and not walk on crops (grass doesn't seem to count) or disturb livestock (again, walking through their field is fine). From experience very few people will object to you walking through golf courses, and a lot of clubs in Scotland are remarkably welcoming.
