Thank you for sharing this marvelous journey, Derek. I am 73 and arthritic, so I can't walk Ireland in the way you have, but you inspire me to do it in my way. We all have suffered and live with loss. It is part of life, but you have transformed your grief and confusion into something beautiful that will touch and heal many people. Bravo!

Derek, I’m an American (living in FL) who’s moving to Ireland at the end of the year (Co. Clare). This was food for the soul and a tremendous encouragement to go live out my dreams in the country that’s always tugged at my heartstrings. ❤❤❤ Thank you for your artistry; you always pick beautiful music. Wouldn’t it be lovely if, someday, I meet you along the Wild Atlantic Way!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful video of your journey. I'm an American of German/French/Norwegian/Polish decent. Only my Norwegian maternal grandfather (who i never met) was straight from Norway..the rest were a couple generations further away. I only ever knew my father's mother and that was for a short period. Point being that I've never had a feeling here of truly belonging. If there were any family rituals/traditions, they were lost/disgarded before I was born. But as I watch you here talking about Ireland's history, I'm reminded of the past life memories that came to me in a hypnosis session I had years ago. I lived on the Emerald Isle, on the south eastern side. It was a happy, simple life. Long skirts and bare feet in summer. I get such a feeling of homesickness and joy watching this. Thank you 🙏💚

A terrific account of one life on the move on foot across Ireland. Always honest, vulnerable and above all compelling. This is Derek’s account of discovering his own place in the world in the light of the challenging personal circumstances that will cross all our paths sooner or later. That’s why we can all relate to this physical journey. We find ourselves within his dialogue and common shared experience. A must watch.

Tom Crean one of Irelands greatest explorers. The beer is no longer being brewed but was delicious. One tough explorer who overcame impossible odds to survive but finally died from poor healthcare available at the time. He should have been treasured and immortalized.

Ireland is in a weird place right now, yet it is still quite beautiful. It still has the essence of the old world but also the convenience and safety of modernity.
@DerekCullenOutdoors10 ай бұрын
Hi there! Yes I agree. I do not want to fan the flames with my videos but there are many times in which I point to this “weirdness”. For instance, my comment about the post offices closing down and my mention of how Michael Collins, Tom crean and st finbar made Ireland “a great country in the past” was a nod to how Ireland is losing its way and some things are not changing for the better. But I do believe there is a way back and the light will return in that sense, thank you for watching 🙏

Thank you Derek, I just loved, loved, loved your "Walking Ireland Documentary: A Journey for the Soul". It moved me so much. From your singing Raglan Road (and singing to cows along the way!) to reciting Brendan Kenneally's poem Begin, to the fabulous music chosen as a back-drop to your videos, this documentary was just magical. You are so gifted at making fabulous videos. But the heart of the documentary is YOU, you walking the backroads and hills of our gorgeous country, in all weathers (as is normal for Ireland!); you, talking to us as you journey, being open and honest as few seldom are; your kindness to animals and sheer delight in visiting villages and small towns. I was delighted with all the local history stories, Tom Crean etc - your stories were extremely interesting and I learnt so much. Your message from Bettina was very powerful. And, SuperValu Kay giving you a hug and paying for your shopping, shows again how much we all benefiting from your videos and how much you have touched our souls. As Bettina advised: "make sure you sing your song", Derek. With love and thanks.

Recently I was considering a hiking trip to Ireland and started to research the country. I knew very little about the wild land that was there. Upon researching I came across countless trails, many over 50 miles. There were so many trails that it did my head in and instead found a flight from Cornwall UK to hike the coastal trail there. It was my first time in both countries and to my surprise both are amazing hiking and camping countries. Most Americans, where I come from, view the British Isles as urban and densely populated, which they are to some degree, but they also contain a wealth of natural wonders as this documentary shows. Thanks for the amazing information and filming. Next time I go back to Ireland I will definitely have a better lay of the land.
@DerekCullenOutdoors10 ай бұрын
Fair play to you billy. There are many decent trails in Ireland. I would advise you avoid “The Ireland way” which I did not find so enjoyable and perhaps consider the E8 coast to coast trail. My pleasure with the video and thank you for the kind words 🙏
