Went to omonia square in may 2022 for a city break stayed at the brown acropol hotel, yes it is a little run down but after the austerity crisis of 2013 they are really trying their best to get people to return and I'm afraid this video doesn't help, me and my wife found the people around omonia super helpful and grateful of the tourists, hotel and staff were amazing and went above and beyond to make our stay a great experience, omonia is lovely especially at night with the fountain lit up and we never felt threatened once either during the day or at night time, please remember crime happens everywhere and I have felt safer walking omonia at night than i have back in my home town in England, oh sorry I forgot to mention we are returning in June this year for 11nights, same hotel in omonia square, can't wait 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷

So pleased to see this comment! Me and my friend (both young women) are staying at brown acropol in April and I’ve seen so many comments about it being dangerous

@@Miiichaeeelaaa hi micheala, hope my post eased your fears a little, omonia square isn't without problems but like any other capital city just be aware of your valuables when walking around, we didn't have a problem at all and went for a city break last may and on our last day we knew we wanted to come back so booked for June this year for 11nights at the brown acropol which was lovely and the rooftop bar and hot tubs with the view of the city especially at night is worth the trip alone ,when you come out of the hotel turn right and the next street on your right is athinas which will take you down to monastaraki square which is just below the acropoliis and has plenty of shops and bars, our favourite is the greko project which has fabulous food, great service and not expensive at all, as far as cost is concerned we didn't find Athens expensive, I always live by this rule that if you are happy with the local food ie. Gyros which is delicious it's cheap but if you want lobster every night then obviously it's expensive, anyway I so hope you and your friend enjoy the brown acropol and Athens, we can't wait to go back in June, best wishes Pete and Karen Norris

I did a night walk video ending at Omonia to show if it is dangerous at night. I think it is a lot better than it was just a few years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIGnpaZrmt6Uhq8

Just to follow my original post, when we returned last year it was just as wonderful as our first visit, the hotel was as good as we remembered and yet again didn't feel unsafe walking around omonia, of course like any capital city just keep in mind about your valuables but it can't be that bad as we are returning in September 2024,same hotel in omonia

I made the mistake of booking an Airbnb near the square..not knowing that this is not a recommended area for tourists to stay 😢. I’ve been watching a lot of videos but they’re all from several years back. Yours seems the most recent.. would you say the area is okay? I’m visiting in about a week

I don’t know why but I really like Omonoia Square I think it’s recovering i think it might become the something like the Puerta del Sol in Madrid. I really like the two neoclassical buildings

Again ,nick thanks for your amazing video ,the world is herded with some truth and some exaggerated views ,but come to the USA ,mass shootings ,hate marches, robberies , and entire blocks of homeless camps and drug infestation of entire towns (example Kensington usa.,and there is a town in every city in every state that has this .not calling out people for views but putting some perspective on all country's ,don't call the kettle black , it's black all over the place. Thanks again for your amazing video and truthfully editing ,very appropriate for this old world 🙏👍to health and prosperity.🙂 The close downs are internet related.

I think they don't want anyone around the fountain because of the heavy traffic around it probably.

Piraeus is teaming with scammers it seems. My friend was scammed out of 50 euros this summer. This was outside the metro station. Young man working at the cafe told me to be cautious with anyone approaching you.

@@ToGoIsToKnow We were having coffee on the terrace of the chic cafe opposite the station. Man approaches us, asks for change for a 50 euro bill to pay for a taxi. The bill was fake. Spent 1 hour looking for a bank to exchange it.

According to recent data of crime rates across Europe’s largest cities, Athens is safer than many of its contemporaries - it’s statistically safer than Rome, Paris, Dublin, Brussels and Hamburg. And all of those cities are considered “safe for tourists” with crime rates low. And of course incomparison to american cities, which Trump said was carnage of violence,.it is very safe
