George, These lessons are brilliant. I stumbled on your Walking bass part 1 lesson, and have been working through to this one. The way you have explained this has meant I can really see walking lines forming, and better still I can finally see that, with many, many hours of practice, I might finally get to the stage that I can create walking bass lines on the fly from just the chords shown on a regular song sheet. Might take a few years, but at least I can now see what sort of note selection I can use, and it's coming from someone that has a selection of books, from the likes of Carter, Brown etc. They are great but I really like your approach, downloaded your book today, so looking forward to hours of practice. Out of interest, do you play double bass? be great if you did a few lessons in that area :)

+MrFireblade67 Hello and thanks for your excellent and informed observations and comments. Yes, I do play double bass. It is, in fact, my main instrument (which I don't mainly play). Thanks for downloading my walking bass book. With that you will certainly be able to create bass lines on the fly. Kind regards ... and happy walking :) George

Hello, me again, I was wondering if you could give me some tips on something, see, I have this problem when I'm playing that I get a lot of string screech when I move my hands, mostly because the bottom most part of my index/pinky rubs against the G-String when I move my hands, I play a 5-String, thank you for these great video lessons.

Hello and thanks for your query. The solution is easy: Just arch your fingers enough so as to not touch any of the strings (except the one you are on) when shifting. I hope this helps. If not, upload a video of you playing. I will take a look and a listen and send you my feedback. Bass of Luck! George

So, would it be "normal" practice to alternate between ascending lines on one chord and descending lines on the next and so on to create diversity? Or is it just a matter of taste? Thanks
@BassLessonsOnline9 жыл бұрын
+Tom Spallone You got it, Tom! We certainly should be able to alternate between ascending and descending lines ... even over the space of 4-8 bars. (This is shown in my Walking Bass Book.) Where we go up or down depends on many things; besides taste, the musical moment should determine our lines. I hope this helps. Kind regards, George
