Hello Dave, You are Godsend. I have been searching for years to find a teacher who can hold my hand and walk along this beautiful journey of jazz piano. My search ends with you. You are just the perfect teacher to study something as profound as jazz piano. Your absolutely methodical way of teaching and your ability to break every concept down to its simplest of forms is very rewarding for a student. I am digging every lesson of yours and have also started with your Joy Of Improvisation Part I book. I am going to learn from you for the rest of my life.

Honestly, i think that this is one of the best videos that i have ever seen, both on the left hand walking bass line, as well as a general approach for adding right hand improvisation. A heartfelt "Thank You" for putting out this content for free! I plan to start looking through your other videos... I'm hoping that you have one on rootless voicings. Regardless, I'm sure that I will find many other gems in the process.

Thank you for this fantastic leap in my theory lack. Scaley...that's one thing I've been scratching my head about for a long while. Dave Frank Oh, I forgot. You know how we mortals are. But in all seriousness though, I would like to thank you again. I have been watching some more of your videos and it really helps put a better perspective on jazz. Ever since I started playing piano I've been obsessing over how to get that ''Jazz'' sound you hear all the time. It really can't be explained, but you know it when you hear it. I'm sure you know what I mean. And what I wanted to say is that your videos have helped me demystify the different aspects that make jazz sound like well ... jazz. I've been watching these videos for a while now and just wanted to let you know that I am thankful for what you do. It's really boosted my piano playing and heavily influenced my style.

As as a bass player I've noticed a bass case at 0:27 and since then I have been waiting untill somebody takes it and starts playing the walking bassline on the bass. What a shame it didn't happen... Just kidding. Great lesson. It doesn't hold all the secret ingredients to effective walking bassline (more could be seen here on YT), but to my mind this lesson is still the most comprehesive and gives essential components in the right order. Thanks a lot! And best of luck.

Why do you play d in cmajor7?
@Retzloffs
@Retzloffs 9 жыл бұрын
WeretII D is the major 9 of cmaj7 so technically he's playing a cmaj9. Lead sheets usually indicate only the maj7 or dom7 and it's up to the musician which extensions to add for the desired mood.
@WilliamSlaght
@WilliamSlaght 8 жыл бұрын
+WeretII As well to add with what Retxloffs said, depending on the context of the piece and who you are playing with others, the extensions do change depending what key. Such as Cmin7 in the key Ab with its extension would be b9 being Db and not the actual 9th being D. I hear a lot of players do this out of the lack of knowledge, but if it works, great, but if another person would be soloing, it could create some unnecessary tension or/and confusion since the soloist might play Eb to Db over Cmin9 (with that D).
