Wasn’t going to do this to bring controversy to the channel, but I think it’s an absolute travesty that a wealthy man could shut down a venue design to feed the poor so that he can have his dream home built in its place the politicians in the area should be ashamed of their area for doing this to the poor in the area you say it will never happen to you. You will never be broke. Nothing is guaranteed in life. Thanks so much Derek for bringing awareness to all of us.

I stayed at the Bohemian Hotel in 1993 on my way to Shoreline Amphitheater to see the Dead. I had a great time in Ashland.

We lived there from '94-2000. Random video pop-up in my suggestions... weird! I didn't search for it. Retired to San Francisco now, I was a tour guide here. John McLaren designed Golden Gate Park and served as superintendent for the rest of his years, but he did take some time off to head up there and lay out Lithia Park in 1914. Some details... Design Similarities: While Lithia Park is not an exact mini copy of Golden Gate Park, it does reflect McLaren’s design principles. Both parks feature naturalistic landscapes, curving pathways, and a variety of plant species. Lithia Park, however, is tailored to its unique location and incorporates local flora and the natural canyon of Ashland Creek. Historical Context: The development of Lithia Park was part of a broader effort to beautify Ashland and promote it as a health resort destination. This initiative was supported by local leaders and the Southern Pacific Railway. The park’s design was completed in time for a grand dedication on July 4-6, 1916. Community Involvement: The push to create Lithia Park came from the citizens of Ashland, who passed a bond issue to fund its development. McLaren’s expertise was sought to ensure the park would be a lasting and beautiful addition to the city. ------------ Sorry to hear about the gentrification and closure of the hall, I remember it well. That house is indeed nice and the architecture fits the surrounding area, but I agree it's not worth the price. I haven't been involved in Ashland affairs in 25 years, but I guarantee the closure was due to some folk thinking the hall and free meals were a 'magnet for undesireables.' I enjoy your use of 'houseless' terminology over 'homeless.' 🙂 We had befriended a number of 'houseless' transitional folks at that time, including one very large fellow (about 6'4" and 250 lbs) who called himself "Lithia." He was an amazing dude, very wise and philosophical. We made occasional trips south to LA and SF, and had him housesit for us. After we moved, we kept in touch with him but only if he could find a library that had public computers so he could check his email. He last wrote us from Portland in about 2005, and that was it. Gone with the wind, I suppose. Final note... My wife and I worked in local theatre up there, and right around '97-98 we did a play called 'Sylvia,' by A.R. Gurney. It's a funny little play about a dog named Sylvia, and the part is played by a human actor in a dog suit (RIP our old friend, Deb Note-Farwell, you were the best 'Sylvia'!) So, here's why I'm telling you about it... there's a scene where Sylvia's owner, Greg, is taking her for a walk but she slows down to sniff around. Greg gets impatient and tugs gently on her leash, saying, "C'mon girl, we gotta get home!" Sylvia replies, "Hold on old man, I'm checking my messages!" So yeah, it's important to give your Jettdog time to check those messages.

Oh, and... it looks like The Blacksheep Pub on the plaza is no more? Sad but not surprising, it's been a long time. That was our hang out.

Thanks for a well written & information comment! Much appreciated! What the video doesn't show is the 3-4 times I walk Jett daily. I've studied dog psychologists & do let her sniff 95% of the time when we walk. People even comment on the fact that I let her stop to sniff patiently alot of the time. So think its only giving you a false impression. No biggie! You only have this video to go by. I loved reading your terrific info tho & really am grateful that you took the time. I actually have 2 other very active KZbin channels & really only started this one to put little videos on that don't fit on those channels etc Just a Lil channel with nature, some music, & and miscellaneous videos. Thanks 4 being here amigo! Soon I will have much more new nature videos from other parts of Southern Oregon ❤ All the best to you!!

If you're looking for another big group of "bohemien" types got to Grass Vally in N. CA. I know it's CA but oh well that's where all the Bay area & Marin county people move to & it's getting to be a huge community. All the open mindedness you can dream of
