I moved to Durango from N.C. to work at New Country Auto Center. I signed a 1 year contract. I lived on Florida Rd. in town. I am originally from the southern Appalachian mountains. I found out just how small our country is when I went to checkout the train that runs from Durango to Silverton. Where I live in N.C. there is a train that runs a huge loop, they actually run it in the winter as the Polar Express and it was actually used in the movie The Fugitive. The 2 trains, as I found out, are owned by the same people. I also, while working as a the lead service writer at the dealership, met a lady whom really enjoyed listening to my accent. The lady said I sounded like her brother back east. I said I am from N.C. She said, how funny, my brother lives in N.C. I said where? She said oh you would probably not know the town it is really small. I said I am from a small town. I said well what is your brother's name. The lady said Dr. Heffington. I said my Dr. back home , his last name is Heffington and his first name is Mark. She grabs her cellphone and calls someone. She hands me her phone and says can you please tell him your name. I did what she asked and I hear. Roger what are you doing with my sister? I laughed so hard and handed the phone back to my doctors sister, saying no way, no way. We laughed for a very long time about that. I am back in the Carolina's now but I miss the fishing in Durango. Happy Holidays to you all.

There are some great places to park the RV not far from downtown. You can park at the Albertsons or Doubletree and walk 2 blocks to downtown. There is also a large city parking lot along Hwy 550 that we often see Class C and B plus RV's parked in. That is only a Block walk from downtown. :) Thank you for watching and commenting! :)

Travellers Relish the Strater Hotel (the building in the screen cap and beginning/end of the video) was built in the late 1800’s (1880 I think), the architect was actually a famous architect, but of ships. It gives the building a unique look and feel.

I have been in a "Durango State of Mind" since last month was customarily when my family stayed at Lake Vallecito for their vacation, and we would do our shopping "in town," a good 40 minutes away in Durango. We went every summer, as far back as I can remember and stopped in 2001 when dad passed, I have yet to visit again one day. I have fond memories as a child in the 70's buying rubber insects in a peculiar shop that housed an old soda fountain (they used Coke sryup, which makes all the difference in the world!), looking at the toys in the T G & Y store, seeing Star Wars at the Gaslight Theater (so glad to see that is still there!), Ice Cream at Swenson's, pizza at Cable Car, both gone I suspect now. I got a little shock when you passed by the old Main Mall, as I remember meeting a very special, very fleeting person in my life who worked in Pine Needle Mountaineering in about 1998. A long-lost crush; I had completely forgotten the logo and facade of the store, so seeing it here made my heart do a little jump! Thank you for this wonderful walk down a lane of memories!

Its literally to increase floor space so people dont eat as close too each other. The decision was made by the business owners originally, not the city government, all they did was give the go ahead. Parking isnt an issue because less people are around dude to covid, and besides it wouldnt really be an issue anyway. Its also not that dangerous because people know to drive slowly and be alert due to the high foot traffic. The only time there is an issue is when people from texas drive without looking. Educate yourself before you speak.
