Stopped here for a day on an Alaskan cruise some years back, the highlight of the tour for me. We sere so lucky that it was time for the salmon to be going upstream, and you couldn't put your hand in the water without touching a load of them. An amazing sight. I also took a hike up the 'Married mans trail', watching the salmon jumping up aver the small falls. We had been to Juneau, the glaciers, and Sitka, and after this we went to Victoria island. Ketchikan is still my best memory. Cheers from south Wales.

The way he pronounced Ketchikan is kinda charming lol Being someone who lives here I haven't really been around all the tourist-aimed spots, especially without all the tourists! So it's really nice to see cool videos like this exploring spots I never have the time or reason to visit on my own ^^

Terrific video. As an introvert, your quiet commentary suits me well. I don't like it when someone is bouncing off the walls to make their video, as if that is the way to hold the viewer's interest. You have an eye for interesting things. I loved Creek Street, the burl on the fence, the hike, and the zoom in of the marina, the buoy with the eagle, etc . . . I used to hike. Nearly 70, and quite happy to leave the hiking of this trail up to you, particularly as the trail was wet and so narrow in some places, and had lots of roots. Love the sound of the creek, seeing the moss and ferns. When I had a good time on an outing, I collected a pebble as a memento and I keep them in a bowl, along with an assortment of pretty minerals. I call them "happy rocks." I don't remember which pebble went with which outing, but just holding one in my hand makes my heart feel warm because it represents a beautiful day, a good time, often with my grandsons. They loved the happy rock tradition and liked to choose a pebble from the beach or woods, or a polished stone from a gem store, if we were in the city. The boys particularly liked it when they could find a polished agate with a curved line in it that looked like a smile.

I am 68 and I wouldn’t hike that trail. I was thinking what if you got hurt - is there a signal to get help or does a park ranger walk it every day to check it out. This was enjoyable to watch. I am an introvert too.

Very cool! I started watching your channel recently, and I was surprised to see this video of Ketchikan, where I grew up! There are a lot better trails than the one you went on, but it was still cool to see how things look now. Also, the river you mentioned is actually the Tongass narrows which is a part of the inside passage. It is in turn part of the Gulf of Alaska and the Pacific Ocean. Often people confuse it for a river though, so I understand why you thought that. Did you just go up there to film or for another reason? Juneau and Sitka are also some cool places to check out. Anyway, thanks for the video, it made me homesick!

This was an amazing trip you took us on! I have lived all my life out west, so much of the forest is similar to ones I've camped in or visited--But a lot more rugged! The winters must be something else to bring down that many trees and tree branches. I always thought I'd get to Alaska, but 1st responsibilities, then health...and now I'd be scared to try to even take a hike like that alone. Thank-you so much for sharing it with us--and the whole trip! Hearing your intelligent comments is fun too.

I have been in Ketchikan several times. Always by cruise ship in the summer time. So crowded and uncomfortable with all the people. Nice to see what it is like in the late winter. So peaceful . And wet. I'd like to know where you are from that you have not seen forests such as the cedar and fir trees of the northwest. Makes me want to give your ferry ride adventure a try . Great and peaceful narration and cinematography. That trail you were on must have been a back breaker to build with all those huge flat rocks. Thanks for taking me along

We were in Ketchikan with our cruise boat a year ago. It was rainy and very very crowded. It's too bad you didn't get to see some shops but it's nice to see it quiet. It rained while we were there as well. I was surprised to learn that area of Alaska is a rain forest.

The next time you hike out on your own in a strange place, check in with the ranger station first so SOMEONE knows where you are going & approx how long you will be gone. In this kind of wilderness, you need to take more safety precautions. Not only in case you slip & fall, but there are some wildlife, even in winter, that may not take kindly to being disturbed.

Hike around Oregon and Washington. Same kind of terrain, lots of green moss, snow & waterfalls. Oregon has a lot of natural hot springs you can hike into. Most are free. You can sit in a hollowed out log in hot water with snow a foot deep around you. It was one of my favorite things to do when I lived there. And you need to see Mt St. Helens. The information center is great & the trail are beautiful to walk.

I went to Mt. Rainier many years ago, such an incredibly beautiful place. It is so vast anyone can get lost there. Seattle was a nice place to tour as well, I enjoyed the museum there and the Space Needle.

Do you have ribbons on trees to indicate paths everywhere in America? Here in the Italian alps we have paint on trees or rocks with numbers.

Iv seen may different trail makers more times than not I've seen permanent marks on trees like little signs and arrows. I'm guess the ribbons is more of a temporary fix for the time being there is no way they will last very long. rocks is a good idea as well

That is where the salmon Spawn and once they do, they die and that part of town reeks dead salmon smell. I used to work for princess cruises and was there after it all went down.

sad thing is everything up there was over fished, the oil pipeline was completed, all the raping & pillaging done, all the jobs went away... then came the cruise ships... then the 2020 COOTIE BUG... ALL those southern Alaskan towns thrive on Cruise Ships nothing is what it used to be, jobs went away... then it's OFF-SEASON, a ghost town... the scenery is nice...
