This area is Hasidic Satmar , . Less than 10% of Jews are Hasidic. Their beliefs are very different from main stream Judaism of Orthodox, Conservative and Reformed. There are several branches of Hasidic type communities. They Do Not support Israel, since only the Messiah can re-establish Israel. Even though Brooklyn has large Hasidic communities, they have very little contact with the secular world . They lead an extremely strict Hasidic life and their first language are variations of Yiddish. This community is Satmar Hasidic by the style of the hats worn by the men. Other Hasidic communities can be recognized by their particular style of dress. Large families come from the Torah which states many children are a Blessing from G-D and that all mothers will be called " Blessed"

This is an Hasidic Jewish neighborhood, which has several branches. Less than 10% of Jews are Hasidic. Their beliefs are very different from main stream Judaism of Conservative, Orthodox and Reformed. Black is worn to not stand out in public and as a color of mourning the loss of The Temple. The style of men's clothing is to maintain cultural ties to 18th century hasidic Judaism in Europe. The large hats on men show they are Satmar Hasidic with roots in Russia and eastern Europe.They do Not support the state of Israel since Israel was created by the United Nations in 1948 and only the Messiah can re-establish Israel . They have little contact with the outside world , even though they live in NY. Variations of Yiddish are their first language and they lead a religious strict life !

I was looking for the answer to why some of the men wear the large hats, so thank you for explaining. Do the Hasidic Jewish talk with or speak with other people outside of their faith? Not to be offensive, but is the neighborhood poor? A lot of the stores seemed to be closed down or perhaps closed. Thank you.

@@robinbridge4371 The Hasidic neighborhoods are lower middle income . Very large families are expensive and many men spend the day studying Torah . They interact with secular world when need be, and anyone is welcome in their stores. But the majority of their lives are extremely strict and outside contact is not encouraged. Tonight is the start of Sabbath, Friday and sirens blare as a signal to stop all activities and the neighborhood is totally vacant of people, . They will all be inside observing the Sabbath. There are a few Hasidic festivals that are similar to Halloween and New Year's. There are some good resources online to learn about Hasidim. But if you visit Brooklyn, this neighborhood would be interesting to stroll

To me those outfits are comical. I'm sitting here laughing especially at the ginormous round fur hats. A reasonable person might make an erroneous assumption; that I'm contemptuous and willfully disrespectful of Jewish people but I am most assuredly not. So many of my greatest American cultural heroes are Jewish. America would simply not be America without the influence of our Jewish citizens and patriots. It's just that there are very many strains of Judaism. There are branches where you don't even have to go to temple and you still get credit like the kind you'd rub shoulders with in my city of Miami. The community in Williamsburg must be at the opposite end of the spectrum. I've been to shul with my friends and never heard one word I disagreed with.

Definitely not Shabbat since they are not allowed to carry anything, nothing in your pockets not even a key, not allowed to shop or use bicycles. All these stores would be closed on Shabbat. Just a regular ordinary day during Passover.

Those who have not been to America may be surprised by the amount of garbage on the streets. Unfortunately, this is more the norm than the exception. I have not been to Williamsbourg, but I have been to another Jewish enclave, Boroughpark, where it is relatively clean. Latino neighborhoods are the dirtiest, not to mention black neighborhoods. I come from a country where in the past, in the times of communism, it was perhaps not so dirty, but gray and sad. America is a land of contrasts from unimaginable wealth to extreme poverty, which is very evident. I completely fail to understand the myth that in America everyone is very rich, which was common in our country until the 21st century. Today, when I return from the USA to Poland, I have the impression that I am returning to a cleaner and more civilized country. And yet Poland is still not a particularly rich country.

IDK, but I watched the video with my own four eyes and that’s what I saw. Whatever…she was explaining the rules for the overall community, not a few exceptions.

This is a Hasidic community, not main stream Judaism of Orthodox, Conservative and Reformed. Hasidic are less than 10% of Judaism and the Do Not support the state of Israel. Hasidic believe that only the Messiah will establish the real state of Israel,. Current Israel was founded by the United Nations in 1948 , not by the Messiah. Hasidic generally hold that current Israel is an illegitimate man made country,
