Brusque, in the Itajaí Valley in Santa Catarina, carries with it the heritage of people who shaped its history and vocation. Founded in 1860 by German immigrants, the city of approximately 141 thousand inhabitants preserves Germanic traits in architecture, gastronomy and cultural events.
In addition to the Germans, Brusque received contributions from other nationalities throughout the 19th century, such as Italians and Poles. Interestingly, the textile industry, the city's hallmark, has Polish origins. It was Polish artisans who brought weaving techniques with them, starting an activity that would become an important textile center in Santa Catarina and nationally.
Today, Brusque is an important industrial and commercial center. In addition to the textile industry, the city is home to metallurgical and machinery industries. The diversification of the economy contributes to the development and strength of the region.
