ALINA DEREN Well, in 1976 I lived in city center, next to Botanical garden and University. Since 2001, when I left Ukraine, I visited Kiev 3 times. I usually rent a place - you can find decent studio apartments for $20-30 per day, and local transportation is inexpensive. There's a lot to see in Lviv too, which is my favorite city in Ukraine.

OK, at around the 4:10 mark there is a rather rotund-reared woman on the Parkovyi Bridge. Just randomly jumping ahead I see yet another circumferentially challenged lady at around the 16:05 mark near the Nativity of Christ Church on Volodymyrs'kyi Descent. Again at 24:35, again at 33:11, again at 48:07, etc. And I'm certain a more scrutinizing perusal of the hour-long video would yield an even greater number of chunky folk. Don't get me wrong. There are many Ukrainians who are fit, but they are not more bizarrely fit than many others in the world. The notion that "all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average" is a myth best left to Lake Wobegon. It's fun and fashionable to fancy everyplace else as some sort of utopia, but in truth, it's better to live in a world where everyone isn't perfect. I fell in love with Kiev during my time there, but I appreciate the reality more than the fantasy.
