Neuss is a large city in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located on the left Lower Rhine on the opposite side of Düsseldorf and, with almost 160,000 inhabitants, is Germany's largest city in the district and, as a medium-sized center, it is also the largest city in the Rhine district of Neuss. The city is best known for its Roman past, the Rhine harbor and the Neuss citizens' shooting festival. In 1984 it celebrated its 2000th anniversary, making it one of the oldest cities in Germany.
