Mr. Moran was a truly talented and generous bladesmith. I had the pleasure of taking a class he taught many years ago. Hea passed around 1 of his fantastic quillion daggers for us to look at. A photo of which is most likely in your book. The last day of the class he demonstrated how he did silverwire inlay and passed around the brass patterns he used for layout so we could make drawings in order make our own patterns. Your knife is a fantastic piece.

Beautiful work as always. It was a pleasure to meet you and Chris at the Reynoldsville PA meet last year. Little tip for tapping. Before cutting the pommel from your piece in the lathe, use a center in the tailstock. Line that with the divot in your T handle tap wrench to keep everything straight. Just lightly dial your center forwards as you tap. Also look for some spiral modified bottom taps. Emuge and Gurhing are two I use often at work. For a blind hole they pull the chips out like a drill shaving and save you a lot of cleaning. One tap in the lathe like I described will do it all from start to finish. Eliminate a step, and have more accurate results.

Met Bill in 1996 at the blade show as a12 year old who had every issue of blade magazine. He did a quick forging demonstration on a piece of mild steel. After the show he met my dad and I and gave me the knife he had forged. It was a prized possession for years. It was stolen in a box of knives that my dad and I made together 15 or so years ago. I'm sure the thief had no idea about the piece of history and tossed it out. Also met Dan Dennehey and he taught me how to throw knives his way. It was a great experience. Met Gil Hibben, he was super nice also.

Matt, I just wanted to say there was so much history and key points you brought into this project that I just loved. You seem to be a really humble and genuine guy and that charisma shows in your work. Great job on the knife, but an even better job making the artistic connection to the ABS founder in a good story. I don't know if you wrote the concept out for the filming, or had someone direct it, but that was really movie quality man. Good work.

When you talk about Moran introducing Damascus to modern bladesmithing I'm reminded how there's one Wikipedia editor who is *really* salty about how "Damascus" in modern use means pattern-welded steels rather than the swords and knives forged in the Levant by smiths using both imported wootz steel and locally sourced iron that it's named after due to the very fine pattern visible on those blades. Seriously, while I haven't looked at the page in ages, there was some major WELL, ACTUALLY energy happening there 😂
