Walking in Xativa, Spain March 2021

Xàtiva is a picturesque town in the Valencian community with a population of 30,000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the La Costera region. It is located in the south of the province of Valencia, Spain. Around 65km from Valencia and about 35km from the seacoast. Through Xativa is passing the Valencia-Murcia and Valencia Albacete railways. The name of the town is Xàtiva in Valencian (pronounce it [Shativa]) and in Spanish is Játiva (pronounce it [Hativa]).
The downtown of Xàtiva is a place with a great history. There are located Collegiate Basilica of Santa Maria the principal church of the city, the Museum of Almodí and many beautiful buildings. The city was known in Roman times by the name Saetabis. Later it has been a cultural cradle in the Moorish period.
On the top of the high hill overlooking the town is the castle of Xativa. It is open for visitors and very well preserved.

No es un “pintoresco pueblo” sino una CIUDAD por título concedido en 1347 por Pedro IV. Fue durante los siglos XIV,XV y XVI la segunda ciudad del Reino de Valencia y ha sido cuna de los Papas Borgia( Borja) ,Calixto III yAlejandro VI así como de ilustres personajes de la historía de España como el pintor José de Ribera, “ El Españoleto” ,Francisco de Paula Martí, inventor de la taquigrafía española y de la pluma estilográfica, o del Diputado Villanueva. Tras las Cortes de Cádiz fue por poco tiempo (1820-1823) la Capital de una Provincia( distinta a la de Valencia).Desde 1984 fue declarada Conjunto Histórico- Artístico, de la que el vídeo apenas nos muestra casi nada.

No pude filmar más porque mi batería estaba agotada. Es bueno poder ver más en Xativa. No filmé el castillo también. Es hermoso. El camino al castillo tiene vistas panorámicas de la ciudad.
