I climbed lug about three weeks ago at night in HORRIBLE weather conditions.. Im 16 so it was kinda the first big mountain adventure and by god was it hard.. It took us 7 and a half hours.. rain wind and sleet and the clouds came down over us so we couldnt see a thing. we did have an experienced climber with us though. he told us afterwards that even he thought it was really difficult

i was up there all nite a few times, love it.i'm in the army reserve. being up the lug several times at nite in horrible weather with the army, great fun. spent 6 nites on glenmalure once living in a hole fun fun

Hey, i dont want to fight over this vid, and i'm not "having a laugh" Took me 8 hours, but was hard to judge as i was filming also, 8 hours was a estimated guess. 5 or 6 does sound more realistic :-) I decided to rate it as difficult purely coz of the risk of getting lost. Which, if you watched RTE on tuesday is a real factor, even for guys who call themselves experienced. Do i not deserve 5 stars even for effort??? :-(

go to camrahill side. there is a pub at the base called fentons, fine guiness there. .

If there is a route with arrows, i would have prefer to take that route, as i myself got lost the first time i went to film the lug. Ended up 17 Km off route, had to ask a very kind forestry worker to drive me some of the way to my car, i was THAT lost.

i agree, i would only attempt the lug in fine, clear weather. Carrauntoohil, did it during the night time, amazing experience. Started at 2 am, was just getting bright as i was finishing. Made sure there was a full moon also, gives off great light. Are you in the army?

Hi i climbed lug a few months ago and never walk the way on the video. i started just at the entrance of the fire range on the ballineddan road and im doing the walk again and wondering can any one tell me is this an ok way as its so close to the firing range and could i start to walk up camarahill onto lug thanks and hope someone can help

i climbed it today using the glenmalure route ,basically took the exact same route as the guy in the vid ..when past the warning sign ..as an officer in the rdf it was spectacular to have a whole view of the north prison which is at around 800m which is where we fire close to in our artillery shoots,just wondering ,did you take the "zig zag" route as your descent ,i found when just descending towards that was torture

i'd say mot people cant, but i can fully understand the attraction! Did you spend 6 nights in a row on lug?? Must have been a fairly comfortable hole you dug for yourself, complete with fridge, shower, TV, Sky + etc etc

why did u go that way, the best way is to go up over camrahill then onto the lug. its got arrows all the way to the top. safer too if its ur first time as u can't get lost and u avoid the cliff.

yea ok 5 stars for effort, fair play, however those guys were foolish for going up a mountain in that kind of weather, we were planning on climbing the lug last sat however we refrained due to the unpredictable weather at the moment. fair play to all concerned in the rescue, although the army knows that area like the back of they're hand, well i do anyway
