Walking Neighborhoods at Sunset with Cicadas | Nature Sounds for Sleep and Study

Enjoy this relaxing short night walk through The Hamptons at Umstead community located in the Northwest Raleigh area of North Carolina. We filmed a walk here during the day back in April 2022 ( • A Walk Through Neighbo... ) and people liked it. We wanted to see what the place looks after dark. We started walking 15 minutes after sunset and quickly ascended into darkness. Unfortunately, we had to cut the walk short due the residents becoming suspicious of the cameraman and Wife.

We began with a simple idea: share nature's visuals and sounds. Then, we saw the beauty in sharing the journey itself, not just the destination. Hence, this channel took its first steps, moving from static to dynamic.
We mainly film using a Sony FX30/E 11mm F1.8 camera and a Zhiyun Crane M3 gimbal for steady footage. Nature's sounds are recorded with a Zoom F6 and binaural microphones, and we polish the final product with Davinci Resolve Studio and Izotope RX.
The purpose of our videos is to provide an escape, potentially offering benefits such as relaxation, stress relief, and fostering a calming environment conducive to meditation, study, and sleep.

Growing up I used to live on a place like that. 6 of my neightbours and my family had this tradition that every 2 years we switch and move in into each others house just for fun, you know to make it entertaining. Then my parents moved out to a much better place, I started to make bad decisions, one thing led to another and unfortunately I went homeless for 4 years straight. I'm doing better now, just bought a house in Costa Rica. I miss my childhood, I hope someday it all comes back to me as it used to be. Stay focused, stay healthy and sober.

@@stangerling9412 was it the shadows that gave it away? With our current videos I have someone walking far behind as a lookout. For example a few videos back, a man chased after me and the lookout warned me ahead of time. Something odd like this happens about 1 in 50 videos.

Haha. Only a Raleigh resident would understand this comment. Last time we were over there, there was what seemed to be a dead guy laying in some shrubs. By the time we circled around to check the police were on the scene. He was either passed out drunk or fried. It’s always something similar when we visit good ole capital blvd.

It’s mainly my day job that makes morning films prohibitive. It’s a choice of staying up late or going to bed early. Once I’m locked in to either, I stick to it due to insomnia. I do love morning walks though. Maybe if there’s a schedule change. Wind in the trees is something that’s extremely difficult to capture on audio because of wind hitting the microphone. It must be done properly or it’s a mess. It’s something I’ve been working on for years and it must be windy when I’m available to film. I actually make my own windscreens because such a product doesn’t exist for the microphones I use. I’m constantly experimenting with this. In fact if you listen to any of my walks, you’ll seldom hear wind hitting the microphone due to how conscious I am of preventing this with my various wind blocking inventions. @@miklospaitz Thanks. I linger exactly for those reasons. I actually started out recording static audio in 2014 until I had the idea that I could move through an environment and capture more of the places I was filming. I didn't realize how incredibly hard it is to do properly until I tried it. We're about to try out some new shoes to quiet our footsteps. My wife actually walks with me and matches my footsteps to be invisible. She's in every video that I've filmed, believe it or not.

"Well, well, well, my featherless friends," the wise old owl began from his perch above the screen, his head tilting slightly as the comment flickered into view. "No vehicles passing by, you say? My, my, let me ruffle my feathers and share my perspective on this seemingly quiet neighborhood." "There once was a time when automobiles were as common as worms after a rainstorm. But not here, not in this neighborhood," the owl continued, his hooting chuckle echoing softly in the night. "Let me give you the inside scoop, or shall we say, the inside 'hoop', as in 'hoopoe', a bird famous for its sense of curiosity and mischief." "You see, this neighborhood had a secret, a secret as strange as a cat playing fetch. The streets were lined with trees - oaks, maples, pines, you name it. But not just any trees, these were enchanted trees. Each one planted by a resident of the neighborhood, each one carrying a unique spell. And the spell was this - whenever a car would pass by, it would be transformed into a bicycle. Just like that! Poof!" The owl paused, peering down at the screen as if expecting the commenters to suddenly gasp in surprise. "Now, don't get me wrong," he continued with a chuckle. "Not every passerby was thrilled to suddenly be pedaling their way to work. But over time, the locals started to enjoy the slower pace of life. The air was cleaner, the streets quieter, and the community… well, it was closer. You see, it's hard not to greet your neighbor when you're passing them by on a bicycle rather than zooming past in a motor vehicle." "But there's more," the owl added, leaning in closer as if sharing a secret. "The cars didn't just vanish. Oh no. They were sent to another dimension. A dimension known as the 'Garage Realm.' A place where the cars could roam free, live their best car-lives, untouched by traffic jams, flat tires, or parking tickets." "And what about the bicycles, you ask?" The owl laughed, a deep, hooting chortle that echoed through the night. "Well, at the stroke of midnight, they would all turn back into cars, only to be transformed once again at the break of dawn. Quite a cycle, wouldn't you say?" "So, there you have it, my friends. A neighborhood without cars, a daily dose of exercise, and a secret realm for vehicles to frolic freely. Perhaps it's a conspiracy, or perhaps it's just a wise old owl spinning a tale. But I ask you this - wouldn't life be more interesting if we embraced a little magic every now and then?" The owl gave a final wink, fluffing his feathers before taking flight into the night, leaving behind only the echoes of his hoots and the flickering glow of the screen.
