If only y'all knew the history (motion picture and TV history) that took place in that station....over 500 movies,TV shows and music videos were filmed at Hoyt/Schermerhorn on those 2 unlit abandoned outer platforms since their abandonment in 1946

That's an old school "C" train pulling in @14:50, with the roller signs and small cab. When I was a kid in NYC, I loved standing at the front window of the train and pretending I was the driver. There aren't many NYC subway trains left where you can get right up to the front window.

We stayed in New York two weeks ago for 9 days,it was a crazy experience as a european.Very-very interesting city,we have seen lots of positive and negative things.The metro was both positive and negative in the same time:you can get from anywhere to anywhere,but you have to know how to interpret the signs.Most of the stations were really dirty and disgusting,we’ve been to Hoyt-Schermerhorn as well for example.Nevertheless we still want to go back,because it is a wonderful city,and i will keep following your videos,because they bring back nice memories :)

The thing I find astounding about all of the original IND stations is that they were built for the future. Platforms 10 car lengths. As far as I know, the stations today are basically the same as the day they opened. The empty platforms were supposed to be for local trains that would only go as far as the Court Street station. Riders who wanted to go to Manhattan, walked across the platform to an express train.

What's the fancy "L" logo all along the wall of the Bond St. passageway about? The outer platforms and walls look very well maintained compared to other abandoned platforms in the system. In fact, they're in better condition than a lot of active platforms.
@ActionKid5 жыл бұрын
I had to look it up too. Seems like there used to be a large department store here. From www.atlasobscura.com/places/hoytschermerhorn-subway-station “Walking along the mezzanine level of Hoyt-Schermerhorn is another curiosity: a striking series of floor-to-ceiling length blue tiles, with a circled, yellow L in the middle. Not indicating, as would at first seem, the presence of the L train, these largely unnoticed tiles advertised what was once Brooklyn’s largest department store, Loeser’s. Occupying an entire city block bounded by Fulton and Livingston Streets, Elm and Bond, when it opened in 1887, it was one of New York’s glitziest shopping experiences. It was one of the first stores to install electric lights, telephones, elevators, and escalators. There was an underground entrance leading off Hoyt-Schermerhorn’s mezzanine and up into the store. Today, there is little at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn stop to remind passengers of the once grandiose department store above ground, or the iconic 1980s music video filmed below.”
@alb123456725 жыл бұрын
@@ActionKid Up to the mid-80s or so that was an entrance to A&S dept store. May have been the IRT though.
