I LOVE the TIG FINGER, I'm a sheet metal worker welding ss exhaust in cancer treatment centers (8 sites in Bedpan Alley NYC, York- 1st Aves. between 59th & 74th streets)... 95% of my work is above the "ceiling" not yet installed, so you have about 3 vertical feet to navigate between steam pipes, plumbing, electric conduit, sprinkler system, ductwork: supply & return... GREAT INVESTMENT, SAVED MY HANDS . As a 260 lb guy my response to my wisea$$ apprentices that doubted if I could get into a tight spot to weld has always been, " I MIGHT BE FAT BUT I'LL FIT", and like an AMEOBA I worked my way into spots that the kids couldn't believe possible... Once in those spots there's no where to move, your product allowed me to endure heat from welding in cramped positions. It was one of my best gifts to my "kids" that welded at my retirement party. Thanks for ALL YOUR UNSELFISH SHARING OF INFORMATION AND TECHNIQUES [TIPS & TRICKS] Bronx Love brother 😎

@@weldingtipsandtricks What machine are you using in this video? You saying 100-110 amps but the puddle characteristics look like the 150 amp setting on my 180mpi inverter tig lincoln.

I also have the flexlock TIG torch I've got the water cools and I've also got the air cooled and also the valves flexlok I use for my sanitary welding I also find a quiet hard to walk the cup with that TIG torch I always switch out to a flex head torch or rigid to walk the cup with. I do have to say thank you for a great videos and the info that you give and also to the great product that you have with the tig finger I use them all the time keep up the great work...🎉🎉🎉

Can you imagine if the TIG FINGER didn't exist,we would either have blisters on our fingers or we wouldn't have ANY fingers at all.Thankyou Jody for coming up with the idea and selling them.

On the open root walking the cup try as you walk the cup to keep the tungsten/ arc pointed at the very center of the root, The sides will take care of themselves.

Any other tips? 😅 im 2 weeks into learning myself tig 1.5mm exhaust pipes. My welds are grey and every source tells me heat input, im certain its not. Im not as consistent yet but the dimes are okay, they blend in nicely, no undercut and good penetration. Without filler there is colour so it cant be the gas either.. im welding with a basic #7 cup and flowing about 7lpm and just under 40A. Even my haz is maybe the size of another puddle. Is there anything else i can look at before buying like a #10 gas lens? The gas feels like it flows out the cup just fine but i still have a feeling its not distributing the gas right or something 🤷🏼‍♂️

I learnt to oxy weld before I learnt anything else. Did it for years. Consequently I tend to free hand most of the time when using the tig

Btw, if you want the same material deposition with both techniques you need to feed the same with both torch techniques. Try following the arc with the filler while walking the way you do with freehand.

Hi ! I'm French and currently learning tig welding in this exact same position. I'm kind of struggling with the imperial system and I can not figure what are you parameters (sheet thikness, rod, stick out...) could you notice them in metric system please ? I'm pretty sure your video can help me because this position is so hard... everytime I'm going above 90Amps for the fist pass, the puddle is collapsing and everithing became a big mess... ^^'

Hey buddy all you have to do is type your question into google for example: What is 1/8” in mm = 3.18 mm or .3175 cm. I hope this helps.

What state are you in and do you give lessons? I learned basic TIG 30 odd yrs ago and I haven't used it much since then, but I'd love to pick it up again. The only problem is that I have developed a genetic tremor which makes TIG difficult for me and I recognize the fact that I need instruction to help me weld with it. Please let me know. I know you're busy, so I'm not gonna get all butt hurt if I don't hear from you right away.

Can tell you really know your stuff and I think any client would be more than happy with your work. What I wish you could have put some extra time filming into are the START and STOP positions of the weld. Seeing how you tease into the very beginning of the plate and hearing insight into what you do to back off of the weld at the end would be immensely helpful. I know for myself trying to salvage a bad start can take longer than necessary to get into a good groove and then knowing exactly what actions to do as the end is fast approaching helps me to execute that transition. It would be great to see a video of 4T setup on a machine and how to take advantage of that setting in a straightforward weld joint and possibly any other situations you’ve encountered where it could make things easier (i.e. where using a foot pedal is not very conducive like ladder, welding on your side etc). Maybe you’ve already done a video in which case plz ignore this.

Learn how to do both with each hand equally well or at least try. I can free hand the same with both hands and my left hand is about 90% of my right hand walking the cup. In the work I do i am seldom able to walk it due to restrictions. I mainly keep walking the cup to welding beads downhill in a roller or walking the fill and cap in a roller as long as I’m not in a hurry. In my experience I can fill a pipe much faster free handing vs walking the cup. Oh and one more thing, I’ve walked a flex head torch a million miles without breaking it. You DO NOT NEED the torch he is talking about, I’m sure it’s nice but not necessary.

Jeff I used to weld with a couple of guys who were polar opposites on damn near everything. If one would use a flex on something the other would use a stiff torch. If one walked the other freehanded. At the end of the day,if you hadn't seen who was welding what you really couldn't tell unless you saw the stencil. I was still young and learning a lot of the basics and they taught me that on a lot of things there is no one "right way" there's just what works for you the best in that situation. I've never broken a flex walking either but I'm not very heavy handed on a torch like some are.

Dont choke the head so much on the torch and get your damn eldow in the game. Focus your attention on the arc movement and not the torch placement. Walking is far superior in efficiency when trying to lay material quiclky and consistently.
