@@T1DWanderer It's not as dark as one might imagine. I mean it's dark of course, but the snow makes it feel a bit brighter when you have street lights and stuff. And the sky isn't really pitch black, but more of a dark blue. It's very nice. But now, this time of year it's getting to be bright 24/7, and it's nice when the light returns.

Must be very short day light time from November to February. That would be hard to put up with.

@@johnfwilliams5765 The Sun goes down in November and comes back in January, so no daylight at all during that period. It's not pitch black though, more of a very dark blue color in the sky.

Interesting to see Alta from a camera POV. I guess many of us take our homeplace, every building, monument and everything else for granted most of the time. I'd wanna visit if i didnt live here. Alta kirke (the second church you visited) was built in 1858. Its one of the few buildings that didnt get burnt to the ground during ww2. It did take some abuse but was back in use christmas 45'. Anyways...safe travels!

A few churches were not burned down, and 4 or 5 of them in Alta. But the germans burned down to the ground every shools, hospitals, post offices, bridges, hotels, official buildings, lighthouses, meeting houses, fish farms, stores, industry and artcraft senters, barns and residential buildings with everything the people owned in it. Burned the boats. And they killed the cows and sheeps often in bestial ways. And pets. They were brutal and merciless. Some drugged german soldiers were very brutal while they trough people out of their houses. The roads was ruined, too. The population was forced to evacuate. But 25000 people hid themself in the Mountains, illegally. In wintertime without much to eat. In fear to be found, deported and punished. Some young women became gerilliasoldiers angainst german elite soldiers.

What an incredible weather you had, the best there is in autumn. I don´t know if the Norwegians have a word for the time of the year when forests, mountains and fjords turn to red and yellow, in Finnish it´s called "Ruska". I was in Alta about one week before this Easter. There had just been awful snow storms and avalanches with four persons dead.

Alta was once called one of the ugliest cities in Norway... because it was built in a sort of compromise location, it was a lot more car-oriented than most Norwegian cities. It still has very broad streets. But I think they must have made it a lot more walkable since then. Today it's certainly a place one would be happy to live (and the real estate prices suggest so too, compared to the rest of Finnmark!).

Different factors comes into play. Even though Alta is the most populated city in Finnmark country (30.000 inhbs), it is wide spread. Hence Alta were granted status as a city the recent. It is early morning. Shopping centers are built. People flock to the the shopping center. It might have been chill outside. Last but not least it is not a vibrant metro. It's just a small city in the arctics.

@@T1DWanderer correct but the crash was relatively minor. chopper wasn't equipped with fire retardant system and the poor kids all burned to death when fuel caught fire. coroner said that if it had fire retardant system (not required at the time), they all would have survived.
