Will There Be Any Treasures Left? Extra Tall Building Demolition. Special Rooftop Recap At The End. This is a sad story. This building took a real beating. Its sad it owners have to take the building down. We have been given the building over to do the demo and instead of taking the building down with all the reusable stuff in it we are spending a month getting all the reusable stuff, either out for our resale store, or to donate.

@1:10:00 - At my condo, I moved our stuff out the first week the beach reopened. We took down the railing and unloaded everything through the patio because the regular hallway and one of the stairwells was stuffed full of debris. And because it was on the patio in a good location, there was no chance of someone accidentally falling.

Back in the early 70s, my family used to live behind the green house on the corner of strandview, which is sadly no longer there. I believe that building was built around 1978 - 1979. My Mom hated it when they built that condo there, I remember playing there as a kid among the Sea Oats, and it was a natural, vacant lot access to the beach.

I was surprised the hotel was permitted to open and operate with that situation. It was awful to stay in a high-end hotel and be forced to wait 10 minutes for the elevator to come up to the 15th floor, then ride in it with a disgusting trash cart.

The re-insurance market after 4 years of loss is going 5 times last years rates. Even at those rates, one cat 5 dead on into Miami could be a “trillion” dollar loss for the 5th year. Building is cheap, insuring is nearly impossible unless “self insured”. One can build a 100 million dollar hotel,,, good luck insuring it.

It looks like Florida is going to have to adopt seismic codes straight out of California. The damage is similar to the unstable structures I've seen on the coastline in and around the LA and San Fran areas. I've heard engineering studies take up to 2 years in some cases, and thats for a residence.

Many of the concrete structures in Florida are having issues due to age and salt water. You would think that replacing those buildings with a steal building would be a better decision rather than building another concrete high rise. You would also think that it would be way less expensive to build using steal than concrete as well. I'm wondering why so many condos are built using concrete rather than steal?

@@removeitprosdemolition While watching this tonight, my husband paused this to show me at approximately the 1:06 mark. I concur with @favorite602, 100%. If ALL the mirrors in the apartment are covered, it is because these folks were in mourning of an immediate family member (spouse, parent, child, sibling). How heartbreaking that the hurricane landed in the middle of their shiva.

My guess is theyre Orthodox Jews and By covering mirrors, Jewish tradition symbolically reminds mourners to avoid distractions caused by their outward appearance.

This was a Category 5 hurricane, the worst nature has to offer. Worse, the storm stalled over the area for 10 hours before moving on. 20' storm surge, pounding away every 7 seconds. There were buildings which were on the island for 100 years and countless hurricanes that didn't make it this time. This is the only one in recorded history for here. We've had multiple Cat 3 & 4s here on the island and they didn't do all that much damage. That said, this building WAS NOT built well...along with many other 1980s-era buildings.

@@removeitprosdemolition I'll send it to you privately.. Truly, every decision was the wrong one. They didn't get a restoration company onsite until November, and they hired a company out of Colorado who admitted they never have worked a hurricane. Dehumidifiers didn't arrive until late November. They didn't start reconstruction until Jan this year. And still no fire alarm yet. The sad part is that our buildings were minimally damaged. Others on the beach saw far worse damage and have been running since last summer.
