Your video brings back some fond memories of mine. Back in 2001 I left Taiwan, arrived at Manchester as a PG student and visited the China Town for the first time. It was during the mid-autumn/full moon festival and I vividly recall I stood beneath the arch looking at the massive five-star PRC flag draping over my head. I felt so uncomfortable I went back to my flat immediately. Later I shared this experience with my friends that one has to be away from his country to learn the true meaning of national flag. One of my friends was doing his national service in the army and he told his superior officer my story. Two weeks later I received a huge flag from my friend with a hearting-warming hand-written note from his lieutenant. As my flat window happens to be facing the railway coming into Manchester Piccadilly, I fixed the flag on the inside of the window and pointed the desk lamp at it, literally turned my room into a beacon. Few weeks later I met a fellow Taiwanese student from Liverpool. He mentioned on his way in he saw the flag as the train pulling into the station and he almost cried. I told him it was me, he jumped out of the sofa, grabbed my hand, and showed me the slightly blurry photo he took. It was more than 20 years ago but feels like yesterday. I just want you to know after watching your video I now know exactly how that Liverpool guy must have felt back then. I wish I were there to shake you hand, give you a bear hug, and perhaps buy you a XL cup of bubble tea. Nothing but respect mate. 👍👍👍

Yes, for people who have never been living in a country outside of Taiwan, it is hard for them understand that your national flag identifies who you are. Until there is another national flag for Taiwan, this is "our national flag".

Gerrard Street et al. used to be occupied mainly by Hong Kongers and related Guangdongers who would recognise the White Sun, but I don’t know if that is still the case. Here in Canada that flag has very deep roots. In fact, it's not uncommon to see the Taiwanese (ROC) flag displayed on top of some buildings in various chinatowns. The Chinese Nationalist League (Kuomintang) in Vancouver, for example, displays the Taiwanese flag alongside the KMT flag. Any controversy is the result of the CCP propaganda.
