Walking Vietnam's Most Historic & Scary Long Biên Bridge

The Long Biên Bridge is Vietnam's most historic bridge. When it opened in 1903, it was the only bridge spanning the Red River and one of the longest bridges in Asia. Originally called the Paul-Doumer Bridge, its name changed in 1954 after North Vietnam's independence from France. It was bombed heavily during the Vietnam War by the US Air Force and repaired several times.

Seems like the Bridge 🌉 has not been maintained since it was built and it soon can collapse somewhere or someday at it's weakest point. They built all those Parks, Office Business Buildings, Beautiful Malls, Fine Hotels, Worth Billions but not Upgraded the French Bridge of the 1900s. That's backwards, as the infrastructure is the most important. Dubai is realizing that now!

I thought it was scary you crossed once and never return LOL. The triangular barriers beneath protect the bridge from big boats. France offered VN $50mil Euro to restore the bridge in 2016, they visioned a pedestrian bridge only, Vietnam declined because I think Vietnam assumed no one would walk through here. Again, Dec 2023 last year, the French gov offered $700.000 Euro for the research of the bridge restoration. With metal frames running uninterrupted across the river, like the dragon, that's why the Vietnamese called it Long Bien, now is just a few section of the metal frame remaining. The name Paul Doumer sounds like Đ..M... in Vietnam, which means F.... so in the colonial days Vietnamese called it the Đ..M...bridge ....
