I received a C leg over a year ago, I live in a rural community and there are no PT"s who have any experience with a C leg. I gain more from your videos then I have with anyone else. Teach to walk as an amputee and seeing that it is all from the basics is very helpful. I feel I was lead to believe that this microprocessor knee would be life changing. It has not been so and in many ways I have been disappointed. But time to move on and appreciate what I have. Thank you. Practice, practice, practice. .

I learnt more from this great 20 minute video than I have over the 5 years since I became a below knee amputee. If only I'd been taught that this is how to walk correctly in a prosthetic. Maybe my gait wouldn't be so bad now! Been practicing today whilst out and about here in England.

From one PT Amputation Care specialist to another: Great work! Very few understand the importance of initiating swing via the pelvis. Extremely refreshing to see, and will certainly help clinicians and patients avoid some of the common pitfalls which preclude symmetrical gait. Bravo!

These videos helped me a lot. Can you believe that I lost my leg in ‘87 when I was in my late 30s? And this is the first time that I get to learn the right way of doing things. However at 70, I‘be developed arthritis in the areas where there’s trauma from improper use just like he said. If I’d gotten the right techniques in rehab, I could’ve avoided the falls, sciatica pain, and arthritis in my GOOD LEG!🤬😡 Thank you for this video!

I've learned more from this series of videos than I ever have from my "prosthetic" guy. I wish this video in particular dealt more with btk walking - my knee DOES bend but my body and I are flummoxed by the "bounce" and ensuing feeling of instability that happens when I try to walk...so, I'm still on crutches...over a year later. Not fun.

Hi, my brother had an accident last Saturday (Dec. 18) and he had his right leg amputated. How long did it take for you to get rehab and training to walk with a prosthetic leg? Can I ask if you got prosthetic options or it’s just one kind of prosthetic provided by the hospital? My brother has insurance but we don’t know if it will cover the prosthetic leg, this is in California. It’s been 6 days since his accident and he’s already taking a few steps (with crutches, obv.) but we’re looking forward for him to start rehab. He had an accident with a 99% mortality and he’s the 1% exception. Merry Christmas Eve.

How long should each phase be practiced and how do I stop limping? I am fairly comfortable with walking without my cane or walker around my apt but still have a significant limp. my glute muscles are strong according to my Prosthetist but my balance sucks. I'd love to walk smoothly and can't help but wonder if balance plays a role in that. I can't stand on that one leg with my good leg lifted up unless I'm holding onto something and putting weight on that arm when I lift my good leg.

Is it normal for the prostheses to cause you pain underneath your bottom where it stops ?
@YllaStar95970
@YllaStar95970 2 жыл бұрын
@@brendagoosen467 l just learned, l was given the wrong FOOT for me, when discharged from hospital. Plus checkout Tracey's footwear....A cross training shoe, properly calibrated will give you the real chance to walk just like Tracey. Nike even have a program where they will give you free shoes, and a personal choice of finish, including wide fitting for your surviving foot, and something called FLYEASE, it really opens up the shoe, to take that rigid foot.....And it all costs....Nothing more! A microprocessor gait can be an option AFTER learning this skill. There is no shortcut, so TRY not to beat yourself up. I am where you are, but a new shoe, a new foot, with the same knee mechanism, and will shortly have a silicone sleeve,(which can be trimmed, in length) attached, so losing this long hard glass fibre cast which digs into my bottom too. My rehabilitation trainer also knew NONE of these techniques. We are the most experienced, because we live with this every second of our future. There is just a block in sharing knowledge, and sometimes rejecting what you have been given, in both lesson and equipment, causes you to search, and find resource as great as this.

@MissionGait
@MissionGait 3 жыл бұрын
The recovery process is highly variable, depending on healing, secondary conditions, current health status, and much more. People who have had below knee amputations and take well to a prosthetic leg (tolerate pressure, healthy skin) do begin using it fairly quickly. This timeline is depend on when you acquire a prosthetic and how well you are healing. Confidence in walking is another thing altogether which can often come 6 months to a year following the start of rehabilitation. Again everybody is different, but the important thing is that it is a process that can be done! Glad to see you have found our video. Make sure to check out our full prosthetic training series as there are some exercises you can be doing now.

Don't give up! It is an extremely long and frustrating process that takes much longer than it feels like it should. If you haven't gotten connected before, check out some resources like Cosi Talks ( cositalks.com ) or the Amputee Coalition ( www.amputee-coalition.org ). They are great resources particularly when you are in the middle of frustrating times. Also, you can check out our entire series on prosthetic training too ( kzbin.info/aero/PLSF3akWhiajETHoRj1O7k6nHg8M7VanjQ ).

What kind of prosthetic is that? And my prosthetic guy taught me to kick my leg out so I need to learn all over again
@MissionGait
@MissionGait 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I looked at your walking videos and it looks like you have a mechanical knee, like an Ossur Total Knee. (Great job by the way! It is SO difficult!) This is a common way that walking is taught on this device because "kicking" the leg results in a solid lock-out of the prosthetic knee. It makes it safer, but requires a lot more energy input, making you less efficient in walking speed or endurance. The prosthetic knee shown is this video is the Ottobock C-Leg 4, but the approach to walking is the same as for someone with a mechanical knee. The technique presented here works for all levels of lower limb amputees, but needs to be approached with caution as it takes time to master. We will be adding an additional video that shows this technique with different prosthetic components soon. Be sure to subscribe to our channel to see it when it comes out! Hope this is helpful.

@@MissionGait yes already subscribed. I have kind of given up on walking but I do need to get back at it. The knee feels loose sometimes and when I climb up on a step it feels like it’s going to buckle. I need to get back to my prosthetic guy and see if he’ll tighten it up a little
@MissionGait

@@ginasottile9747 Check out this video and make sure your technique is correct: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKfRhaOHhcp5psU Otherwise, definitely get in touch with your prosthetist! We really recommend that they be on your speed-dial. They serve as your mechanic and can help you figure out any problems you may be having.

Doctors tend to not think people approaching 60 and up are not going to do anything but sitting in a wheelchair...so the analogy 8 to 80...isn't what I have found to be in this world today.

It is unfortunate that there is that bias in the medical community. We aim to never make those assumptions as we are always inspired by the hard work of people learning how to walk once again!
