Remember "Spirit"? In that movie, Spirit couldn't talk with other horses or the humans, but he narrated the story and explained his thoughts to the audience. They probably should have done that in Walking with Dinosaurs.

There's a version of this movie called the Cretaceous Cut, and they stripped all the dialogue and bad jokes out in favor of narration provided by Benedict Cumberbatch. They also trimmed a lot of scenes, so the Cretaceous Cut is only about 40 or so minutes long instead of over an hour long.

I believe they actually are not just in Alaska. The beginning of the film is set further south in Canada, but as the film progresses, it goes to Alaska. That would explain the inclusion of Quetzalcoatlus, as fossils known from the area were recently re-described as a unique genus, Cryodrakon.

What I always find funny about WWD the Movie is that back in the 90's Disney's Dinosaur was originally going to not have lip movement when the dinos talked, because the animators couldn't figure out how to do lip sync for dinosaurs. Eisner HATED that idea and said it was "a failure on the animators' part" . Fast forward to WWD the Movie, and not only did they give it some of the dumbest dialog you will ever hear, but they didn't even bother doing any lip sync so you have what's basically Dinosaur Homeward Bound

The Cretaceous Cut, a version of the film without dino dialogue included in the DVD, and Benedict Cumberbatch's documentary voiceover for museum shows (posted here on youtube by the user Jokey Account) are the superior edits. Some out there would argue that Disney’s _”Dinosaur”_ could’ve benefited from _not_ having its characters talk at all. _However…_ I would argue that in the case of that film alone, for what the directors ultimately wanted to go with, the dialogue was a _benefit_ to it… *NOT* in the case of “Walking with Dinosaurs (🦖)” here, where all the dialogue/voice acting feels like a studio-mandated afterthought. I _will_ agree that the CGI animation, designs, and environments are top-tier (👍).

I absolutely loved this movie as a kid and I still do. It's not great by any objective metric. The dialogue and story could have been great had the writing not been a secondary objective and they definitely should have given more indication that they actually were talking rather than being telepathic. But overall this movie just exudes that childlike wonder and amazement for dinosaurs that I just can't get enough of. And the music was great fight me.

Also, I'm starting to think the dinosaurs and the creatures from the movie (Walking with Dinosaurs 3D) and from these documentaries (Prehistoric Planet 1&2 and Life on Our Planet) looked very realistic and very accurate as I can see. And the movie "Walking with Dinosaurs 3D" it's not bad? But I don't hate it after all. Also I don't like the mean ones who hated this movie :(

I disagree. It's not that bad at all for many reasons for what it is: 1. It introduces different species of dinosaurs instead of featuring the same old ones that we all know, like the overrated t-Rex for example. 2. It's the only dinosaur movie that is more realistic in terms of the factual information for educational purposes, yet it depicts itself as a hybrid of mainstream entertainment and education which makes this movie unique. 3. It's silly humor is firmly tongue-in-cheek, and while not every comedic line hits the mark, most of it's humor is funny. 4. The voice acting dubs over the animals so the audience can understand how dinosaurs as well as other creatures/animals communicate with each other. It's been 10 years since this underrated gem came out (I saw it in theaters when I was 14 years old), and I actually still love this movie. 3.5/4 stars.

I went and saw it in theatres with my wife. I... Did not know just how bad the talking was gonna be... If I even knew there was gonna be talking. But it was a miserable experience. Yeah the creature design and CGI was beautiful... But they also have a scene where the kid gets pooped on. Like... We almost left. Maybe I'll try and find the documentary version some time. I would LOVE to think about pachyrhinosaurus without thinking of that disaster of a movie.

My gripe with this movie was the fact that it only focused on one time piriod. When I hear the title "Walking with Dinosaurs", I obviously think of the show, so I expected that they would show dinos from all of the mesozoic era. I have a similar gripe with Prehistoric Planet. Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but prehistory covers more than just the era of the dinosaurs. A more accurate name for the show would be "Cretaceous Planet" as that is the time period that the show focuses on. By the way, you inspired me to download Prehistoric Kingdom! Lastly, you should give the documovie "March of the Dinosaurs" a try. I really enjoyed it when I was younger.

The animation and design: the design look to unspecialize for polar habitats and the animation is so terrible (specially on their mouths) that the lion king 2019(which interesting the same maker work on prehistoric planet) more realistic 3.the humans: the humans are so bland and forgettable their should be not in the movie and I was wasted when I see them at the beginning So in short: if you meet someone who say the series is great 😊 But if you meet someone who say the movie is great😢

1:10 I think you shouldn't take the movie more serious than what it's trying to be, the movie works for what it is and the dialogue is part of it. This movie is not from my time so I don't have any nostalgia towards it, and still I rewatched it last year and It's pretty good, If someday I have kids I definitely see myself showing them this movie. Also, you said you love Disney's Dinosaur and actually for my that's the movie I found annoying as a kid. I've not watched it in many years, but I'm surprised you don't like the dialogue of this movie. Also, I'd rather have the dinosaurs talking without moving their lips as a human, because that would have felt too artificial for me.
