In this episode of my series “ Walks in Dorset” I take a linear walk from Corfe Castle to Swanage and take the return journey on the Swanage Heritage Steam railway. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I park my car at the (free) Challow Hill “Walkers” car park which is located just to the East of Corfe Castle. My 5 mile walk commences with a climb up on to a ridge - along the Purbeck Way - to Rollington Hill.
My journey takes me along Brenscombe Hill, Ailwood Down and Kingswood Down where I get some stunning views across to Poole Harbour.
At Godlingston Hill, I make my way down towards Swanage, past Godlingston Manor & the location of old Swanage Gas Works.
I then get on a steam train (!) at Swanage for my return journey along the heritage railway back to Corfe Castle.
