Hi Dave, I think you are quite mean to your viewers posting these beautiful summer walks as we head into the darkest days of winter!!! Especially as I'm not a morning person and absolutely despair at how early it gets dark at the moment. On the other hand, so many walks to look forward to next year, so all's not lost. As I mentioned before, I'm currently looking after my daughters Whippet (just when it's not so much fun taking him for walks). I'm going to have to demand some Whippet time in the future and follow in your footsteps, (though maybe not so many). Lovely video, Thank you.

I must have walked the Ridgeway stretch on both the two times I have walked that long distance trail. The first time many years ago, I stayed in a converted stable at Ogborne St George with a host that treated me like an extra equine guest!! Glad you survived the cows you were well outnumbered! And it would have been rude not to visit the pub as it was open! Lovely summer scenery - thanks for sharing the video.
@DaveFord20 сағат бұрын
Thank you Jean. It was tricky with the cows as they were blocking the only obvious exit from the field (normally I would try an alternative way around) but fortunately they were all good natured!

In that area alone, there’s loads of walks, I use Explorer 157 map. I’ve just come back from swanage, we did the 2 rivers walk(wareham) always do Arne plus Worth mertravers ? We enjoy your videos. Cheers.

Thank you. I must add Arne to my list of walks in Dorset next year.

Hello Dave. That's a great area for scenery, as you showed. That old railway track bed, which is now a wonderful footpath and bridleway is quite delightful. Three years ago, I walked from Ogbourne back along the track into Marlborough. Then, a little while later, we walked northwards as far as Chiseldon. Going back to the pub you visited. It was not too long ago when it had a date for closure, but it was literally saved at the last minute by the local people who stepped in and purchased it. Now its a thriving business once again.
@DaveFordКүн бұрын
I am glad they managed to save the pub!
@waltjacob3776Күн бұрын
It’s obvious a coincidence but having stayed in Swanage 3 years on the trot and walked many of your walks (thank you) you now put one out there from my area. I’ve walked the Marlborough Downs and surrounding Ridgeway many times and never get bored of the views and scenery. Keep doing your thing Dave.

Hi Dave another glorious walk taking in the village of Corscombe. The Devil's Armchair not to be sat in if "overly superstitious" I just love the church building,. so well cared for. I was intrigued by your information regarding Thomas Hollis the Political Philosopher. To be buried almost incognito is rather sad, but if they were his wishes then that's how it is. As usual the landscape was fabulous.Thanks to you and Logan.

Lovely video dave - something of everything to enjoy. Your bag seems very heavy, especially when running to the pub! We stayed in WInfrith and did some of this walk a while ago. Thank you for cheering me up.
@DaveFord2 күн бұрын
Thank you. Yes, the bag can get heavy. I try and keep just the basics but there is so much equipment that I really do need ..... tripod, Canon Camera (for still shots), spare Gopro & batteries, spare microphone system, water, Logan's ball, bowl & mat, snacks, compass, phone, etc.,etc! I prefer a satchel to a ruck sack as it is easier to get to things quickly (e.g. if I need to get out the Canon to photograph some Deer).

Hi Dave, I just watched this one for the first time, lovely video, thanks. Have you ever watched the Jack Hargreaves episode of The Old Country where he walks up the Tarrant and discusses how they would settle further up a river as successive generations needed more land on which to live and farm, and they would give each new farm a name further along the river. Fascinating.

Dave that walk was truly magical with the incredible scenery of the countryside. The St Johns church inside was fabulous. I was intrigued by the elderly gentleman sitting on that corner shop window sill. He seemed to almost be looking at you/camera. You can see times were really tough in his day. We should be thankful. Fabulous narrative. Thank You and to Logan.

Another fabulous walk Dave around that fabulous countryside, taking in the beautiful historic buildings and hedgerows. I thought the history of that quaint railway station was super. When you mentioned the history of it Dave, it so reminded me of the closures that took place in the 1960s by Beeching who was as you probably know, was extremely unpopular at that particular time. Having said that i can see that trains still run through there but presumably on a reduced timetable.Would that be right Dave?🤔, i don't know.

Another fabulous walk Dave, and what a super view of the Hardy Monument. I'm glad you described the two different Hardy's as there may have been some confusion. The magnificent scenery is incredible. For me it is Thomas Hardy the Author who i have researched. Incidentally i don't know if you if have seen that short, small black and white film about the Author Thomas Hardy made in 1966. Its absolutely super, as it films Hardy at his house with his wife and playing with his dogs in the drive way and also cycling down a grassy enbankment, at the begining of the film, although i am not sure whether it is actually Hardy as a boy or an actor. Also where the Hardy's are laid to rest. Its all on You Tube if you are interested. Its only a short film. And finally, what a gorgeous puppy and bundle of joy you have. You have certainly got your hands full now. Logan looked worn out. As usual thanks again for the walk Dave. 🐕

Hi Dave absolutely wonderful walk taking in Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, and Mupe Bay. I thought i might have watched this episode, but possibly not, as i had not made any comments. However, i have now, and it is a really nice walk, even though its quite hilly. At some stage we will get to visit Durdle Door and the surrounding areas. I was struck by those historic buildings hidden from view. What a fabulous story they could tell. Many Thanks Dave and of course Logan.

Hi Dave, I simply had to watch this video again with you walking in the footsteps of the late great Jack Hargreaves. For me there is something so evocative about how Jack and of course yourself Dave, are able to bring that super countryside to life with its incredible history. I love that quote that you said that Jack made; [It is unbelievable that this tiny little river gave its name to 8 settlements, to possibly 11-12 and finally losing its name altogether]. Its quite sad from a historical point of view Dave. Thank goodness you are there with your equally expert commentary and knowledge, following in Jack's footsteps keeping us informed of the history of these wonderful places in Dorset. Incidentally, thanks for mentioning why Logan was not with you. And of course i will continue to subscribe.

Well Dave another super walk taking in all those incredible scenes. i absolutely love those Gargoyles and the Upwey wishing well. Those victorian photos were just fabulous from a super historical point of view. Hi Dave another super walk covering Ford Abbey and the River Axe. The history of Forde Abbey is wonderful as i just love the history of these mansions and how they are passed down from generation to generation. Thank you Dave for another fine episode in your series- bit more personal to me this time- was born in the village- in the 40's, the cottage adjoining the Jubilee Hall( at 4.15 on the tape). Brought back very many memories obviously- drove thru' there very recently - all looked very ship-shape reflecting the change in demographic over the years. Growing up there I never really reflected on how lovely an area it was but I was viewing it from a different level then and as they say - ' you can't eat the view' .

Hi Dave. Gosh i don't know where to begin, as that walk was absolutely magical. It was like being transported to a completely different era, which in some ways it is. The history you describe and your research really impresses me enormously. The history behind Eggardon was just fascinating. And the countryside is just glorious just as Mother Nature intended it to be. I will continue as usual to subscribe. Oh, and be careful running down those hills!!!. as oppose to 'Running up that Hill' as the song goes. Thank You.

It's marked as a quarry on the OS map so I presume that's the origin. There's quite a few along that section of the valley. Gravel extraction I would think. Lots of planting on the slopes so it will look quite natural in the future.
