You can really hear the Latin feel - funk with a tumbao bass is pretty hip.

Great tutorials, i've been trying to learn funk piano for awhile and I have trouble differentiating between 16th notes and a slower tempo and 8th notes at a faster tempo, but yeah the rests and using the accents and syncopations of the 16th note level is easy to understand

Walk that bass do you have any book or method to suggest to someone who is just getting started on the piano? Especially for the technical part since my fingers do what they want when I try to play, thanks!

Wow. Would it be possible to break down each genre like this... A sort of template for each??? I have absolutely no musical knowledge and training other than a few theory books, which, honestly, I did not comprehend fully due to much of the terminology. I have just been sort of playing around with all the parameters in music and would like to understand how each genre is created... I have noticed a lot of correlations between rhythmic patterns and structures and the 'feel' of the music...

Thanks for this awesome video. I'm trying to do some extra analysis on how this song is written and every source ive seen says this song is in Cm but almost none of these chords are in Cm (seems like Fmaj to me). But then you're also soloing a C pentatonic for the melody in the funky bits? How does all of this come together? Music gets very confusing T_T

Sad to say this is a rather irrelevant explanation ending with nothing one could call funk. Suggestion... notate a known right and left hand funk piano riff with drums and bass.

Jazz Boy starts off saying Funk came out of Blues and Soul. Accent on first beat, often a two chord groove. Illustrates this with Jazz Boy fave "Sunny" by Bobby Hebb, a five chord song, Plays a mishmash of notes with no feel, no groove and NO FUNK !! Jazz boys, smh.
